I am biased, due to not being a fan of trucks, but I say tC. I personally could not give up the fun a car brings in nice weather for a truck. However your insurance at that age is going to suck if your on your own policy, around that age I payed 2k a year, clean record. (granted I didnt elect for minimum coverage in important areas)...I personally would have more fun with a car, ultimatly its up to you what you will enjoy more, and go for it.

 

i see this is a tough decision.. i love my tc, very fun to drive.. then got a tacoma few months back and i love both.. i was not a fan of truck until i got one, there's a lot to do in trucks too lol.. but a good advantage on truck is more functionality, good for hauling and moving huge stuff also more weather proof like not much worry with floods like the tc... the tc is nice, keep the performance side stock and you get much more mpg, stylish..

 

Or you just reach baller status and just get both...

You should also consider the fact that the ranger has horrendous crash test ratings. With all of the great drivers you should get something that can handle a rear impact.

It's also fun to try to get the tC to understeer.

 

If you're going to get a truck...

...make it count.

I sort of have the same decision. After 5+ years with the tC i feel it's time to part ways with it potentially. One reason is I feel I am not Scion's target market anymore and the other is Living in the Northeast in the Winter sucks at times with the tC. We had a few snow storms up North here with 15+ inches and the tC obviously is not going anywhere. Also, When I go on vacation you can take your rigs on the beach / dunes and have some fun...the tC can't even go near it cause its lowered so I feel left out lol. I've pondered a few vehicles which I would purchase brand new: FJ Cruiser, Tundra, 4Runner or Wrangler unlimited Rubicon...I think it's between the FJ and Wrangler though at this point.

I'm leaning toward the FJ because the price is dead on even with it fully loaded plus I like the looks and it gets decent gas mileage. The tundra is the worse gas mileage. The 4Runner is the most expensive and well, as everyone knows, the Wrangler is a hunk of plastic , falls apart, requires 24/7 maintenance and will eat your money. Although the Wrangler is the best off road, Most of mine will be on road with just snow driving and some off road fun / camping. I have test drove them and the FJ is way better on the road than the Rubicon because of the suspension type.

If I Were you I'd sit back and ask yourself which is going to give you the best practical use each day and provide the most fun. Yes the tC may be the most fun to drive but can it bring you to and do all the fun things a lifted truck can?

This is why I'm going to be getting something larger.

I too have two options.
1. I can keep the tC and buy an SUV and not mod it alot
2. Get rid of the tC and use that money to Mod the new rig.

decisions, decisions.

Just sit and think which is most practical for you. After 5 years, the tC to me is not practical anymore for the area in which I live and the things I want to do.

A part out will be in the near future.

Okay to help some more.. I live in an area where winter is either like wtf its warm out or wtf its a blizzard. Last year was bad for us and i loved the 4 wheel drive since they literally couldnt clear our roads quick enough.
Now i love being able to go wheeling in the jeep, being able to get where others cant.
This last year of highschool im driving between 2 different schools like i did last year (vocational for half the day, normal for the other) i suck down gas. then for college im going to be living at home and driving about 20-30 minutes to school everyday.
I feel neither option, tucked tc or lifted truck are practical for that kind of driving. haha but idc, i just need to pick which i want more.

 

This. It sucks not having money to mod.

 

It may take me a bit to save up for mods but i'll get em.

Im 17 and am on my 2nd car, and motorcycle.. I save my money haha
and to pay for whatever car or truck i get im sellin the bike and the jeep and using whatever i have saved which is so far 2 grand and that will grow

 

FJ Cruiser is pretty neat. Practical? Maybe, but is it comfy for four people? Meh, not really. It does look nice though. My counselor has one and I ride in it quite often. I personally dont like the rear seats and the lack of room. On the other hand, Tundra looks nice.

 

Listening to the way you talk i guarantee after you buy the TC in less than a year you're going to wish you had a truck. I have no where to put my four wheeler in my TC lol and for anybody saying a TC is more fun never rode in a 12 second diesel truck before.

 

Right...now if we could afford a 12 second diesel truck in the first place, I doubt we would be driving a tC.

Neither. Get an Outback or Forester and lift it. More practical than the tC and truck, more fun than the tC and truck, etc etc.

Or if you're stuck to Toyota, FJ, a tC or truck shouldn't even be considered if an FJ is an option.
