Default Terrible tC Experience

To start, this is not a rant, I just need help and I don't know what to do next. I LOVE MY CAR TO DEATH and i'm just worried for it.

First off, I have no had working A/C since Sept. of 07 (no cold air). I brought it in for service in Orlando, FL at Coutresty Toyota and I have also done so 11 more times after that. Each time, there is no freon in my system. Obvious leak right? Well 3 Evaporators, 3 sharder valves, all the hoses and tubes in the system replaced and my condensor and compressed throughly inspected, there is still some how a leak in my car, a hug leak too! Within 24 hours, my system is already empty again. I decided to take it to another dealership beacuse I was visiting my family so I had an extra car to use for the week. DELRAY TOYOTA WILL DESTROY YOUR CAR!!! They blamed the other dealership for the problem and now I have 2 dealerships arguing to pay for more useless repairs. Now that I'm back in Orlando, still with no A/C and now even more issues. Yesterday my car stopped while driving and now I have OBDII code P2212, TAC Stuck Open. I also have an error code for my TPS, Throttle Position Sensor. I have never touched my engine, let alone done any kind of performance upgrades. I had it towed and now it is still sitting at the dealership. They tell me its not supported by my extended warrenty, then he tells me its 800 bucks to replace. Remind you, they still don't know how to fix my A/C which is still under warrenty. Now the questions you guise are going to ask. I have 44K+ miles on an 2006 tC with an 60K extended warrent that covers everything but throttle body (I read the fine print). I only work directly with the service managers at dealerships, no one else! I have contacted Corporate, in Florida its SET, South East Toyota. I have personal contact with Michael Kennedy, Manager of Operations. I can't do Lemon Law because it's been over 2 years.

What is really comes down to is WHAT DO I DO?! I'm so lost! The dealership thinks I'm stealing the freon because it leaks so fast and there is never any dye on my car.

Thanks everyone for reading and any suggestion are greatly appreciated. I think I might need to purchase a Throttle Body if anyone has any connections. I'm a poor college student.

I never expected it to get to this point. Also, I was rear-ended by a drunk driver about year and a half ago.

sell the dealership the car and say its in perfect condition. they try to screw you out of money, so you do it right back to them.

I can't exactly afford to do that. I'm looking for working answers. I'm literally pulling my hair out over this.

That is potentially an amazing idea, if it has to ever get down to that. I would totally do it too.

Lemon it. Even though the throttle's jacked up and not covered by warranty, they still haven't fixed your A/C, which IS covered. That's lemon law, and you can royally screw them with it.

if they think that your stealing the freon, have them recharge the freon and then leave the car at the dealership
what part is actually the problem with the throttle body? is the actual throttle body assembly inop or is it the TPS?
i might be able to get you the part but its not a 100% sure thing

I don't know crap about A/C but I just replace my TB and I have the oem one for sale. PM me if you're interested. I don't know how much it cost but I'm sure I could give you a much better price than any dealership.

Keep going to the big wigs as suggested above, you are their customer and paid a butt load of money on their car. Threaten them with any thing you can get, like the better business bureau. Some times news channels have a so called "call for action' when you tell them how a business is screwing you and they will do a report on the local news and get to the bottom publicly. They will avoid all of this with treats to their reputable business, and you demand satisfaction. I hope things get better for you, just keep your head up somehow.

Ohhh sorry to hear about your experience! When you say you contacted Corporate, do you mean you've just been in contact with the SET regional office? (Cause I see that Michael is the Scion regional Mgr), but how about the actual corporate office in CA?

I agree with declaring it a lemon. They have 3 times to try and fix the problem and after that they have to buy it back from you or replace it.

In Michiga, here a some questioins they ask of us . . .

Is your new car a lemon? Answer YES or NO to the following questions to find out:
Was your car purchased/leased in Michigan?
Was the car new when you got it?
Is your car less than 4 years old?
Have you been to the dealership 4 or more times for the same problem? Or has your car been at the dealership for repair for 30 or more days (or parts of days) out of the first year?

If your answers to all the above questions were YES, then complete our FREE evaluation form. Not only is the evaluation FREE, but, if our office opens a file, we will look to the manufacturer to pay all attorney fees.

If you don't qualify, but are close, call us anyway!

Sooooo,

Check out Lemon laws on line for your state. They'll tell you what to do, how to organize your records and who to call. I think if you put together a report summary then called the Toyota Disctrict Manager via the dealer with the Dealer manager there too . . . then showed them all what you have and that your serious, would probably get a fast response. (sorry for the run on sentence )

Personally, I think they want to recoupe some cash for spending time on your AC since Toyota is only going to pay them tack time, and not hours doing diagnostics.

On the TPS, call another dealer outside of your area (because service managers all talk) and ask them about the cost of the TPS repair. I can't believe your extended warranty covers everything except this. hmmm how convenient.

Anyway, when exactly did you see your AC not operating? After the rear end crash? or after an oil change? Sounds like their treating your car as a second citizen and the tech isn't doing what he should be doing. Also, egtc88's suggestion is right on. do that.

If all else fails, trade it in for something and let them . . . THEN . . . deal with the headache.

The TPS replacement should be under the powertrain warranty, which is 5 years, 60,000 miles.

Are they sure the refridgerant is not leaking from the compressor? Some cars have issues with the compressor housing leaking. And if they cant verify that it is NOT leaking after they repair it, they are technically breaking the law by refilling it with refridgerant every time. If it is gone, it is leaking. They should be able to fill it and find the leak with an inert gas tester (cant use a torch like you did with the old freon) if it is leaking that quickly. Sounds to me they are the typical parts replacer techs that have no clue what they are doing. If they are still fixing the AC under warranty, then leave it with them and tell them to return it when it doesnt leak, even if that means replacing the entire AC system. They can keep it a few days and tell if it is leaking so they cant blame you for it.
