thinking about buying a TC.
Hey guys, i'm thinking about buying a used 2005 scion tc. Right now i own a 1994 toyota celica which i will be keeping but want a car with more aftermarket and to use has a daily driver. I want to know what you guys think about them? I have read a whole bunch of posts, how easy is to add performance parts, interrior parts like speakers, LED's etc.. I have a pretty good knowledge of cars. But i heard the gears are short, and i don't know if i like that, because its a car i'm looking to get good power out of. Thanks for any advice.
well, pretty much that is all true. we have lots of aftermarket support, lots and lots and lots of parts for this car to customize.
yes, the gears are short, it is kinda how it gets to be fairly peppy for a car with it's power to weight ratio. but the downside is the mpg isn't as good as it could be, and the top speed is "only" 127 mph.
but you can make alot of power with tc's easy. especially with turbokits. from 250 to 300 whp with a stage 1 kit. and there are even tc's on here with up to like 454 whp (318_tc)

well with making that much power, how come it tops at 127mph? is there anyway to remove that restriction (not that i would ever really have to..)
hows the clutch on the tc? i can drive a clutch but not very well.
i'm not worried about the mpg that much..
my main hp goals are around 200 - 230hp any idea how hard it would be to make those numbers?
The reason i'm wondering is because numbers for my celica (1994) are extremly hard to come by.. theres no aftermarket for my car, so thats why i want to make sure if i get a scion that'd i'd be able to make 200 - 230hp.

yes, you can remove the limitor to go over 127 mph, but then you redline in 5th gear at 135. so it doesn't really matter that much. not alot of places you can go that fast without endangering people or getting arrested anyway.
it is extremely easy to make 200-230 whp. get a supercharger, 190 whp, get it tuned with a piggyback ecu, you can make around 225 whp. swap the stock 7 psi pulley for a 9.5 psi pulley and a stronger BPV and you'll make another 20 whp. along with a full exhaust and high performance intake. the number keeps going up. but you'll have no warranty on it as soon as you mess with the supercharger.

hey cnelson i think i remember you from 6gc.net. hey man i had a 1994 toyota celica too but what sucked is that there is no aftermarket support so i got the tc and it does not dissapoint but what u will have toi get used to is that its not as light as the celica so if u want to rip corners work on the suspension first. oh yeah and if you r looking at a tc go with a new model they're only a little bit more than a new one. oh yeah and i wish i could have kept my celi maybe i'll get another sixth gen later on
