When it gets to around 10-15 degrees my car makes a “thump” noise every time I hit a bump. It gets even worse when its below zero, it sounds like the windshield is going to pop out.

x2. cept i'd describe it as more of a click/clack or rattle.

but yeah, does sound like the windshield is going to shatter on me. knock on wood...

my bet is these issues are cold weather related.

I have had this same issue (knock on passenger side window/dash area) for since I bought it. It only rears its head at about 25F or bellow. I took it into the dealer 3 times and each time they fixed something different.

1. Loose Sunroof bolts
2. Rear hatch shim fix
3. Winshield spacers removed (that were left in from factory install.)
4. Loose C-pillar molding
Last time I went in there was no rattle heard because it was "warm" out. (above 30f)

I will be taking it in ASAP because it is driving me NUTS!

I'm in Chicago so its like 4 to -4 every day now.

I'll let you know what is found.

That's it. I think we have the same problem. My dealer is already clueless so I'm gathering as much info as possible before taking it in.

You mentioned Windsheild spacers. Can I check this myself?

Peace

no, they found the spacers, not me. I think they are under the molding that holds the glass in place.

ZOMG, lol I knew I would come across this in SL. hope someone finds a way to get this thing fixed.

I came across this when the song was changing per silence. Of course just like everyone else it was during uneasy roads and in cold temp. Of course this is Hawaii and my idea of cold is 75 degress lol.

my noise went away since the weather warmed up a bit.......but I love the fact that people in Florida call 70 degrees cold :-) try any city in the Midwest, we're below 0
it's all good tho, I got nothing but love for ya....I just find it funny

Anyone figured this out yet??? I just started hearing it tonight... like a clicking type noise... coming from the passenger side around the windshield... and this is driving me nuts.

I'd rather not have to take it to a dealership if I don't have to... too much of a hassle and I hate leaving my car anywhere but in my driveway lol.

Well i talked to a toyota mechanic the other day and he told me that camry has the same issue, its caused by the windsheild and the dash hitting each other when cold. He told the best thing to do is to cut a peice of rubber in half and push it down in the seam.

It's actually retaining metal clips on the lower part of the winshield mounting area. there is a technical service bulletin about it. I forget the number. It's for all toyota's, lexus, scion.

The clip is for locating the windshield, it ends up making noise later on, so they modify the ledge/clip. Then the noise would be gone. Putting rubber there is a quick fix. Ask your dealer to look up TSB's for glass for all toyota's. It's there.

I have the rattle noise coming from what sounds to be behind my dash on the drivers side. It could be coming from the engine bay, tough to tell. My rattle/thumping noise happens when I hit a hard bump, or release the clutch in 1st gear in a way that causes the car to "buck" the rattle/thump noise is heard at an exaggerated volume. Mine has nothing to do with the weather etc., it sounds like something loose rattling/thumping behind the dash on driver's side. I to am skeptical about bringing it to the dealer for I believe it will sit all day and they will tell me they don't hear the noise. It bugs me cause I worry if the noise is something serious or just a minor thing. I've had it for months and it hasn't gotten any worse, I guess that is a good thing LOL!

My dealer seems too be clueless too. I been searching for the TSB for this but can't find it. If anyone knows of the TSB I would love too bring this to the dealer. I'll keep looking. I'll post once I find it.

Ok, now I'm getting the same rattle noise from the passenger side of the dash/door. It's about 92 degrees here in South Florida, so my problem has nothing to do with the weather being cold as some of the above posters had said. I got up under the dash and can't find anything. I jacked the car up and got underneath it, and can't find anything. It is so annoying and I just can't put a finger on the exact location. It began months ago on the drivers side and now just started on the passenger's side. SIGH!!!!

i have the same "click/thummp/clunk", except mines coming from the driver side dash. i think its where the windshield meets the dash or pillar or something.

i first noticed the noise in the winter, shortly after having TRD shocks installed. only hear it going over significant sized bumps.

i took it to the dealership, they tried to convince me that it was my DC strut bar...which has been on the car for 2 years without ANY noise issues. They even went so far as to say they took it off, drove it around and didn't hear the noise. which i find highly unlikely that they went thru the trouble to even take the bar off.

but.....if any of u do have a strut bar and are lowered, then maybe it is a factor.... idk. its damn annoying though!
