I have a slight ticking noise that seems like its coming from the engine. I have an automatic 2005 scion it only does it when gear in DRIVE . When its geared in Park it doesnt do the noise. any suggestions of what it might be.

 

Sounds like valve tick - VERY normal for the tC motor - I believe you can find a few videos on Youtube of the valve tick. Hope this helps - Nothing to worry about.

i went to the dealership they told me put thicker oil . I put Lucas Oil and still had same problem. I mite look into the valve see if it fixes the noise.

 

it is a common thing, most tc do it. It is just how the motor is, mine has had a tick since i bought it. There is no problem more than likely.

 

shove head underneath hood. look at thing that's ticking by the intake.

it's called a vacuum switching valve. aka.. a VSV.
