Default Tire Pressure Monitoring system...?

I hit a raised manhole and got a flat tire... It didnt go flat instantly... But the TPS never lit up to let me know that the pressure was low... I pulled over when I could feel every bump in the road... I need to replace the tire tomorrow, and have the ugly yellow spare on...why yellow? LOL... anyways any idea why it wouldn't light up?

We don't, but the dealership would. Go have it checked out!

my guess is you didn't run it enough miles for the monitering system to believe the tire was actually flat and not that you were just turning one direction a lot.

hummm... well the car is going in on Friday for slow to cool A/C and rough idle when the A/C is on, so Ill have em check it out. I pulled over aout 45 seconds after I hit the manhole... so it just might not have caught it... Is the light supposed to go on when the spare is on? If so, mine didn't...

Your tire pressure system did not malfunction.... The reason the light didn't turn on is because the car never had a chance to diagnose the problem. The tire pressure monitor doesn't actually monitor the tire pressure. It monitors how fast the tires/wheels turn in relation to each other over a certain distance. You said the tire was flat after 45 seconds, so there's no way the car would've had time to determine the pressure difference. This may seem stupid, but it's still a very effective system. If you've lost air rapidly the light would not have helped you anyway... it can't tell the future.

After I bought my car new, my light turned on once a week for 3 weeks before I got tired of putting air in the same tire over and over. I found a screw and had it fixed.... light never came back on. In that situation, the monitor was extremely benificial as I never found out about the screw the hard way and never drove with an extreme pressure difference in the tires. :D

Its definately not like the TPMS I had in my Concorde (pictured below) There were actual sensors in the tire, (the Valve stems where the sensor...) Im going to ask about it when I take it in on Friday... I know that its definately a good thing to have! Look at the rear right... LOL...

that would be the "initialization of tire pressure warning system". it may have been missed during the pds. many cars even go to consumers with 70 lbs in the tires because they didn't catch it in the pre-delivery. so scion had to separate the pds tsb (PD014-04) from the initialization tsb (PD007-04) because dealers have missed it twice. too funny....but stuff happens, at least they are catching it.
