Tire pressure warning light permanent fix;)
I have not seen this posted though I posted some of this info a couple of weeks ago, so here it goes in a bit more detail.
If you have the dreaded tire pressure warning light from he!! that just will not go away for more than a few miles, here is a permanent, disabling way to take care of it.
Lower the steering wheel, pop off the bezel around the gauges, unscrew the top and only screw holding in the gage cluster, pull out the cluster, unplug the harness and lay the cluster aside.
Next take the harness connector you just unpluged and face the input end towards you, looking for pin 36, light blue wire, right hand side.
Cut it at 3/4" or so from the connector and crimp a 10" or so piece of wire to it, connector side of the cut. Then tape, heat shrink, etc, the other end sticking out of the harness and tuck it inside the sleave safely out of the way. On the connector end you just cut, run that back to the center mounting bolt for the gage cluster, best to use a ring ternminal on it and bolt bolt it down nice and tight.
Put it all back together, now you have a permanent ground on pin 36, disabling the tire pressure warning light
Did this to my buddies car today, his light was almost always on, mine has never come on once and I have a bit shorter than stock diameter tires, have run 44PSI and down to 30 PSI without a problem(testing handling dynamics)

i currently get the annoying light all the time .. and my tires are good. It just happend all of a sudden and i keep reseting it and it keeps coming back. Its been like this for 2 weeks straight. I like your info.... But im not cutting nothing on my dash. But thanks for the help !!
Are you out of warranty??!
Disabling it doesn't sound like the smatest thing to do. why don't you just let Scion fix it?
FYI, Tire pressure warning lights will be required to be put on a percentage of all vehicles made by the car companies. Eventually it will be in all cars. I'm glad I have it on my 05 tC!
Disabling it is close to something like disabling your brake warning light. Not as drastic but both safety related.
Don't kill it!!!

....guys...read the manuel, when it's on...check your tire pressure and do 31 psi front wheels and 29 rear wheels and in your glove box, hold the button till the light flashes 3 times and it'll reset itself, if it still don't work take it to the dealer and have them have a look at it.
Obviously some here do not realize you are supposed to check things like air pressure in your tires, your oil level, etc, etc, regularly. A malfuntioning light is not going to save anybody from anything, if the dealer cannot fix it then why not just disable it;)
Disabling it is only safety related if you are not wise enough to check your air pressure or feel the change in handling if a tire starts going down while you drive.
Overall, a very weak safety feature, especially when they so many are failing, soon those that do not or cannot get it fixed just ignore it.
Here are a few more "safety" gems we get with our new cars.
Air Bags, sure they are superb at protecting us, as long as we get in the right kind of crash and do not get injured or killed by them, they are not 100% reliable.
ABS brakes, in many situations are far worse than not having them! In some situations they can be quite benifical, in others outright dangerous.
Some of us chose to decide on what level of "safety" we find acceptable for us to live with;)

I guess some of us are just happy with not having everything in working order on the car we will paid hard earned money for. I wish I could ____ away money like that.
Did you ever stop to think that this problem may be part of a larger problem that should be investigated further? Ask any Ford Escort owner if they wished they looked into that small oil stain on the top of the valve cover by the PCV vent instead of wiping it with a rag and blowing it off? That little leak made the Escort the most fire prown car ever.
Fix the cause not the symptom. And as James Dean said "Drive safe, the life you save could be mine".

i got mind before that Tire Pressure Light.... went to the dealer and said my tire was low on air pressure.... it need to be balance all of tires air pressure so it can have a smooth ride... and now no problem at all...
bb, your comment about how somebody spends their hard earned money is rather uniformed at best. I happen to work at least 12 hours a day most every day of the year and usually 16 or more so I can do the things I do. Our car is a business tool, a major investment for advertising, and we have often worked all night to finish up a project, get it ready to take to an event, etc.
A Ford Escort and a tC should not be even mentioned in on the same forum, lol!
As for my buddies TPWL problem, three dealers, 5-6 six trips and wasted time and still not fixed, he asked me to take care of it which I did in 10 minutes. He is a big boy and knows to check his tire pressure and how to fill it up if needed

For those more like us, not worried about minor issues, did not buy the car to be transportation, we may have very different priorities that some members here;)
I am offering help to those that may think like we do, if you do not like it then fine, that is your perogative

tc313, yours is functioning as it should, cool! But you should be able to check you own tire pressure in two minutes then go fill it up
You should make it a regular maintenance item and not depend on a light on the dash, especially one that has proven to not be very reliable.
By the way, we have totally different wheels and tires on our car, slightly smaller in diameter, have run vastly different air pressures frotn to rear depending on what we are doing with the car at the time, etc, the light never has come on, tells me it does not function! I am sure glad I do not depend on it;)

I had the problem of the light reappearing all the time after i rotated my tires, and i thought the system was bad because the light goes on and off for like 3 weeks...finally read the manual more carefully and found out...it has to blink 3 times and you have to hold the button for like 3-5 seconds. now it's fine no problems at all.

Of course but in reality, quality in many things is not what is should be. Again, this is not a daily driver car and we just do not care about little things like this, means nothing to us, not worth our time to deal with it so just disabling is a perfectly good option.
This thread was not started to discuss the merits or personal beliefs about what should, could or would be done about such an issue. It is for those that do not want to deal with it by sitting at a dealer, sometimes many times over, we have far more important matters to attend to in the lives we live or just flat out do not care.
If you read all my posts, I am not recommending that anybody do this, I am just telling them how and why we did and how they can do it as well.
Your belief is your perogative, not what others should go by if they have a different agenda so relax buddy, it does not even effect you personally in anyway so I recommend spending your time doing something more productive. Life is to short to argue such a simple matter;)
Sincerly,
Rick

By the, getting my monies worth can be seen from different angles as well. I work really hard to have my personal freedom, 20 years in the military helped me have the desire to do this, I would rather not waste my precious time over something this insignificant when I can make money, watch a car race, enjoy a nice beer, chat with friends and family, and probably still save time, much more rewarding to me
