Top speeds
You'd have to be going down a hill at almost a 60+ degree downgrade to get the type of speed to coast that fast. Long hills may allow the longer, more momentous drift, but your tires are continually creating a friction contact and continually slowing the car down as it travels without any acceraltion help from the engine.

Hell, I think my 98 Integra (not a Type-R) had the same top speed limit or it was pretty damn close.

Auto or Manual?
Just for the record of anyone trying this, at a certain mph over the speed limit (at least here in Texas) you can be busted and taken straight to jail.
In my younger, probably dumber years, I was clocked doing 92 mph on a 55 mph highway (there were no cars, it was a two lane one way road, I had on my seatbelt... still I don't condon this
) and the cop told me, "Boy, if you'd have been doing a few more mph I'd be taking your ___ straight to jail right about now."
Sooo, yeah, becareful out there. Btw, I was doing about 105 mph in that new Honda Accord but for some reason he got me when I'd slowed down for a hill or something.

You don't eliminate the limiter. Even if you do, you're only getting another ~5 miles per hour out of your car, and those extra mph aren't going to be good for your car at all. If you're looking to go 140+ in a tC, you're going to need completely new gearing, some pretty serious forced induction, eliminating the rev limiter, and hopefully for your sake a better suspension. Also, you'll need to be ready to go to jail, pay a huge fine, get your car impounded, possibly kill yourself or others, and let the world know your parents did a bad job.
It's going to take several thousand dollars to get a tC to hit those speeds. You're better off selling the tC and using that cash plus the several thousand dollars to buy a Mazdaspeed 3.
I've gone 140+ mph twice, and both times are because I would have been killed if I hadn't. It's really not safe or smart.

I have a video of a TC running an 11 second 1/4, but it is a large video and I dont know of a site that will upload its size......any ideas?
And if you do a search for TC top speed on you tube there is a guy filming himself in his stock tc, with the gov. recoded (no limit) hitting 138, right at the end of the video you can hear his engine die as the gas cuts.
I dunnoi about in texas but universal double speedlimit = misdameanor, and on a highway 105+ yoour spending a few nights in jail

Or also a a nice motorcycle that will nearly get you to 200mph for a few grand.
You could buy an early 90's Lexus for a few grand and be able to do over 140mph. . . I don't understand why you would need a Mazdaspeed 3 to do over 140. It's a great car, but not a top speed demon.
And I'm not picking on you, but why would you have to go over 140mph to save your life? 100mph wasn't good enough? There's a reason why paramedics don't OVER speed. . . it because the time savings (even in a life threatening situation) are not worth the calculated risk. You're only talking about a few seconds time savings (unless talking about long distance driving). Unless you're going more than 30 miles, it's not going to make that significant of a difference. Otherwise the biggest slow downs are traffic lights, stopping, and turning.
And if it is THAT critical and you are travelling a long distance, you'd be better off calling in a helicopter. Justifying it based on the fact that it would save your life does not make any logical sense (unless someone was shooting at you). Justifying it on the fact that you enjoy it and it is fun, makes logical sense (but doesn't make it right or ethical either). And that's where people disagree on is the ethical part.
Don't get me wrong, I hate bad drivers. . . especially inexperienced ones who speed excessively on packed highways. But 3AM on an empty road in the middle of nowhere, I believe it is my ethical right to put myself into danger. So long as we do not create a danger to others, I believe we should have the right (which is why smoking and unprotected sex is completely legal). Imagine if the government made those things illegal!!! But, I do understand that most drivers lack the experience and common sense to make the distinction between when they only endanger themselves and when they endanger others. . . which is why the (driving) laws are there. . . and why I've been pulled over for doing 130+ and not arrested (I ALWAYS slow down at the first glimpse of a taillight and do not pass cars at excessive speeds, among many other things, and the cop noted that). But even 25mph can be dangerous and lethal for the wrong driver and conditions
I mentioned the Mazdaspeed 3 as a new vehicle. If I was mentioning used vehicles, that list would never end....but ya, you could definitely get a used Z28/SS/Formula/Trans Am/Corvette for that same amount of money.
And 100 mph isn't good enough when someone is chasing you at 120-125.

Here's a better way of putting it: The fuel cut off is set at 127. People can pass the 127 mark while going down hill with enough velocity behind them and some wind. The needle will continually climb but the engine is not pumping any gas into the cylinders.
On a 100% level straightaway (where top speeds are measured by manufactures and car enthusiasts like Top Gear or SpeedVision), your car will not by pass 127 as soon as the fuel cut off kicks in b/c of friction associated with the tires contacting the ground, internal friction slowing the internals of the engine (thus lowering the speed of the car), and wind resistance without any force being exerted on it.
Think of being under water and having a baseball. Try to throw it to someone else underwater. For the first foot or so, it travels at a velocity that helps it pass through the water b/c of the force exerted on it from your arm. As it continues to travel another 2-3 feet, it will encounter so much resistance in front of it, and due to the fact that it doesn't have any force being exerted on it like it did from the start, it will slow and then fall. Your engine works the same way when on a level straightaway and the fuel cut off engages and wind resistance takes effect. No extra force (gas) means no more climbing speed.

And show a video of you going 140 with the spedometer clearly visible, and then maybe we'll believe you. Until then, everything in this thread states to the contrary.

Best thing to do is find an open stretch of highway, between 2 cop stops in the median, have 2 friends (one sitting at one stop and one at the other) watching out for cops. Start at one and run to the other. Have your friends on the phone on speaker in your lap while you do it
. Tricks of the trade. It's best to have a spot between 2 cop stops with at least 1 exit in between. If you are hauling and need to bail quick from a delayed alert from your friend, you still have that exit ramp. Wow, I don't do this a lot do I? ahahahahahahaha
