DMV and i guess perhaps tickets... will clasify our cars as toyota for the make and scion tC for the model... i dunno why... it's just messed up like that.
you wanna hear something else messed up? Geico insurance still has the "TC" (as in Chrysler TC) listed as the same as the Scion tC... so you'll see that they confuse it as Scion tC designed by Maserati..... which Maserati designed the Chrysler TC.

2 tickets here :
1 says TOY (got within first week of purchase)
the other says SCION ...
and no you won't get out of the tickets even if it said Buick. as long as your ID , address match up, you are rolled....
good luck.

I know that in new york city you can do it, my good friend has a convertable 3-series BMW. They mark the car as sedan on the ticket by mistake alot and he gets it dismissed, but that kinda thing only works for non moving violations.
Back in the day--and I mean away back in the 60's my brother use to pull over Porsche 356's and ask the driver what year Volkswagen they had. He would laugh as their ears turned red................
I think it's just classified by the government as a Toyota. I would guess this for a couple of reasons. First, when we pull a temp plate from the DMV, it says "TOYT". Second, the company does not operate freely from Toyota. In other words, wherever they sell Scions, they also sell Toyotas.
I wonder if a driver of a Geo would get a ticket that says Chevrolet?

Anyways, thanks to all that posted info. I'll update after the court date.

While technically, GM did drop the Geo at some point, so those Prizm's were Chevy's and not Geo's. My '94 Geo Prizm is registered as a Chevrolet Prizm.
So I own two Toyotas that don't have a Toyota badge, LOL
But they got your plate...which is linked to your VIN, so it's going to be hard to fight, unless your angle is the cop is blind and if he can't see what kind of car you got, then he must not have seen you speeding.
Besides, what of de-badged cars? Or what if I debadged my Scion, threw on some Honda logos and somehow convinced the cop it was a Honda? It doesn't matter because of your VIN.
And I know that's not quite the same. Your trying to say the gov't has got it wrong and it must be a technicality...but still, it doesn't matter what 4 wheels you got, the VIN on the car is going to match the VIN that's linked to your plate.
