Ive always been a VW owner...just couldnt afford a new one. Now i got a new job and can afford one. But now i will also be a toyota lover as well. plus i am 6'4 and when i where a hat my head always hits the roof, more so with the sunvisor ofer the sunroof closed. I have the seat al low as it will go.

In the VW theres like 8 inches above my head for space. and VW gave me a great deal on the car and my trade in, and a much lower APR than toyota. But i will always defend toyota/scion till the day I die

you got a great deal on the trade in. honda offered me 15,500 with some play room for my 06 bsp with less than 3k miles on it. i guess the Tc does hold it's value, but you'll always loose a few thousand after you take the car off the lot.

About the fire extinguisher thing, wat does that have to do with anything? I'm clueless. What else are you getting on the GTI? I would get a 4 door GTI instead though. But hey ur paying for it so I can't tell you what to do.

GTI's definitely a tighter ride than the tC, so you'll definitely have a blast with the new car. Just remember though that reliability generally isn't the same with most European cars especially coming from Scion/Toyota.
I went the other way (VW Passat then to my present 05 FM tC) Not missing those typical VW CEL light events at all.
You're lucky though, because VW seems to have been genuinely making some improvements with their cars when it comes to reliability, specially with the new Mark Vs and Passats.
Have fun with your new GTI, but please do not turn into one of those VW owning Japanese car super haters.

I know this is an old post...

True story - up until a month ago, I was a VW owner. First got my Jetta VR6 back in '99, and I loved it...up until two years ago (just after paying it off). I didn't really put any aftermarket performance parts on it (Just the K&N A/F) - and in the past couple years, I needed to drop about 3 grand into it just to keep it on the road...not talking incidental items that normally go. So the new '06.5 GTI comes out (yeah, with the little Fast toy), and I'm all about it. Go test drive one, and it's a rocket stock. The dealership I tested it at (where I originally got my VR6) offers me two grand for my Jetta (KBB $6200 on mine, which was in decent shape) and I told 'em where they could stick their GTI. Went home, did some pricing, and found 3 dealers all trying to get rid of GTI's, to the point of practically giving them away. Got one to give me $7,000 for my car, and knock off $2,000 for the new one...signed the papers and picked it up the following day. Drove out of the lot, and gunned it, just because...hit 60 MPH, hit the brakes (trying a normal stop - didn't stomp the brake), and an un-Godly shudder came out of the front end. Didn't happen under 40 MPH. Turned around, _____ed to the dealer, and they gave me another one. Same problem. Tried A THIRD one...this one had 18" rims on it. Same deal. The sales rep, sales manager, and even a VW technician couldn't explain the issue, so I grabbed my old trade and walked. Later on, I talked to my friend who is a mechanic, and he explained that VW's only last for about 4-5 years before everything falls apart, which is exaclty what happened to me. Two weeks later, I test out a tC on a whim, love it, and now I'm a proud member of this fine community with my RS 2.0.

My point? VW's aren't worth the hassle. Seriously. My girlfriend has a 3 year old Jetta, and she's starting to have issues with it. That GTI being crap was the best thing that ever happened, 'cause I'm officially a Toyota/Scion fan.

Yeah, I've seen a few VW's go up. I wouldn't worry about it though.
My brother in law bought one and the only thing I don't like is they are REALLY SUPER STRICT about modifying it. Especially with the electronics. (Which they don't have a great history of)

It might just be his dealership, I don't know, But they don't like him to do ____ to it.
