Default trading in the tC :(

i feel like i'm betraying the wonderful community of scion. i just feel like its time for a change and a bit more power. for what its worth, this is the best forum i've been on by far. here's what i'm looking at:

2007 VW GTI - candy white
or
2007 Mazdaspeed 3 - silver or red

i know that some people say that vw is unreliable. is it really that bad? i know there is a warranty but i don't want a car that just breaks. my friend jesse swears by german engineering. he only drives audi, bmw, vw, porsche. the mazdaspeed is quick, i drove it last night. wow. pretty much the same price tag on both cars. same insurance as well. the best part is, the mazdaspeed3 is $1 cheaper per month than my tC. suckers. haha. let me know what you guys think honestly.

yeah, i can't save 4 g-units to buy a turbo and have it installed so i need to get something with performance from the factory. i've been reading that the new gti's are made in germany while the ones before that were made in mexico. they're supposed to be much more reliable. anyone have anything that supports that?

^ LMAO... did you read that entire thread? Someone posts a reply in it about a GTI having the same problem!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA.

Ahem. Anyway...
I got no opinion on this. I've never driven a VW, never knew anyone personally with a VW. The most I know about them is that Consumer Reports gives them low scores on reliability.

And I'm totally the wrong person to ask about Mazda. Let's just say that based on my experience, which could very well possibly be individualized to me only, I would never buy another Mazda again.

Yo, if you're looking for a hatchback... why not wait it out another year or 2? The new WRX is coming in hatchback and Volvo's got a nice hooked up hatchback coming out too.

the VW scene/community is awesome. thats the biggest part i miss about owning a vw. Mazda3 enthusiasts remind me of many tC owners. European cars require special tools and equipment for repairs. so if you plan on working on the car yourself, expect to buy alot of specialized tools/equipment. its also tough to find a good european repair shop (thats also reasonabily priced), while anybody can work on japanese imports. i believe American GTIs are made in Brazil or Mexico, but not Germany. Aftermarket support is awesome of the MK5. Mazda3 interiors are made with cheap plastics.

Well, not to get too far off topic... the thread is about a couple of incidents w/ Mazda3's... the one post about a GTI was about a specific incident. But I just thought it was funny to read about both cars in a thread that was linked in a another forum about the same 2 cars. Um. yeah. Anyway...
