i heard that the mazdaspeed 3's had problems with the tranny mounts... too much torque... it snaps them... but they are sweet cars! also.. before i bought my tc i test drove an 07 gti and i really like the car except that it didnt really feel all that sporty... i never have liked vw clutches... but the interior is awesome and the turbo is always fun... spun through 3rd haha

Get the mazda, I believe that VW employs 3rd rate german engineers. 1) Mercedes/BMW 2) Audi 3)Vw. VW gets all the community college german engineers!!!!!!

The GTI is made in Germany so I'd think there wouldn't be too much wrong with it. Are you getting the GTI 5 door? Hmm, Japanese or German. IDK. I haven't driven either so I still wouldn't know.

because it's designed in europe by the ford focus team.
it's the same car as the focus.

as for going for which car, depends on what you want. if you're a driver and aren't worried about anything except going fast and fun as possible, get the speed3
VW will have amazing interior and some zip in the bonet to boot. mind you, it won't be fast as speed3, it's still a fun car to drive but with a much much better interior then speed3. your gf or friends or what ever will appreciate sitting in the vw more.

Yes. My dad footed the bill for my car in cash, and is still footing the bill for my insurance. I'm not complaining, as this is my (fairly) gas-efficient daily driver. However, my next car will not be FWD.

My car hops horribly with only 140whp. I can only imagine 250hp (assuming that's what the GTI is putting to the ground). Why do you think launch control is a selling point on the GTI?

The fact that my car is braking, accelerating, and turning all on the front wheels isn't very conforting when going fast, either.

Both cars look nice, but the mazda looks better. The only bad thing about the Mazda 3 is that it makes a squeeling sound when hitting the brakes. I started to think that b/c it was new it sounded like that untill I drove other new cars (Like the TC) and just found out its a commun thing on mazda 3 . Im u n I'll stay witht the Scion 4 now.

was told that too. but the 07 gtis should not b much a problem as long u r under warranty. anyways the mods for gtis r real easy. a dealer approved ECU re-flash get about 30-40 horsies... only reflash. so there're instant power there...
i'd go with german. if you want more stability and quality then german. if u r cheap and wanna scrooge then go jap. coz jap parts are cheap. plus german labor are hella ex....

yeah, i liked the gti too. don't get me wrong, i loved my scion. part of the reason that i didn't get another one is because of the service at toyota. they ended up having to repaint my bumper, hood, and front fenders multiple times. they made sure to leave unacceptable flaws everytime. according to the "best shop in town", there's no such thing as a flawless paint job. which may be true but the rest of my scion has no visible flaws. so basically i was just over the service.

Wrong, the GTI is made in mexico. The only vw's that are made in germany anymore are the GLI's, the r32's and the toureg.

there were some reliability issue with vw. they were built in mexico before but now ther are builit in germany so i thnk reliablity is better now. either way mazda donest exactly have a good reputation either so it will be about the same relaibility wise. I have nnot driven mazdaspeed 3 but reviews seems to point to good handling. i owned vw before and their suspension is ok but little softer than other compacts. it handles falry well. It will still be much better than stock tc.

I would personally go for vw. they have better overall package and have been using turbo for a while now. r7 had a turbo, but also really bad relaility issue. I see too much of ford influence in mazdaspeed3 and thats a bad think. Only mazda worth buying is miata and rx8. those are all mazda built without much technolgy from ford if any. I still see old vws around the streets alot but i dont remeber last time i saw protege or any of older mazdas

Also there are very little after market for mazdas. Tons of afgter market for vw
