I'm pretty sure they don't send letters for just TSBs... they're just instructions to fix an issue if someone reports it or asks about it. At least, that's how I interpret them...

It's Service Campaigns (wind deflector) and recalls that you'd get letters for.

Sounds like a crappy dealer to me... they should be able to take your VIN and look up any possible TSBs for it. At least that's what a good dealer would do IMO.

A TSB is simply a guide to repair a specific complaint. Do you go to the doctor and request every test he knows how to do? Would you be willing to pay for this? Toyota doesn't want to pay for this either. If you have a problem, they will fix it, but they are not going to go looking for problems you don't have. Are you having a problem with your airbag?

If it were a true safety concern though, it would be a recall and you would get a letter.

Still I can understand not wanting to do the TSB for other stuff, but they SHOULD check his airbag if he wants them to. That type of stuff you should have 110% faith in.

if your not having issues with your airbags, and no recall letter is sent to you
or existing, your not getting any help from the dealer
so they aren't idiotic, they are doing their job
and in the system, there is no TSB listed for tC airbags on 05 or 06

while i appreciate the obvious thoughtfulness and creative intellect that went into that response,....
when i go to my doctor with a complaint about specific sympoms i'm experiencing as well as my own researched opinion of the most probable treatment for the illness i'm experiencing (and the added bonus that my doctor also is also acutely aware of this likely cure), he doesn't say, "i can't help you because i can't replicate the symtoms you say you're experiencing, so you must not really be ill".

btw, an "airbag problem" fix is the sort of problem i'd wanna be proactive about instead of retroactive.
[/tongueincheek] don't even know what the tsb is.

I find myself even more appreciative of the intellect that went into THAT response! And since your a fan, let me toss out some more; THERE IS NO SERVICE BULLITIN FOR TC AIRBAGS. But let's pretend there was. I didn't notice the original poster describing any "complaint about specific sympoms i'm experiencing ". He merely shows up at the dealer to "check out a bunch of TSBs". Let's go back to your doctors office visit. If you have insurance(sort of like Toyotas warranty), do you think they will pay for any test you dream up with no symptoms? Because somebody told you it's possible for you to have this affliction?Highly unlikely. Toyotas warranty policys are no different. Who's going to pay for the snipe hunt? If the customer is willing to pay, I'm quite sure they would check out anything his heart desires. TSBs were designed to help technicians repair specific complaints, not for every person that reads about them on the internet (real or imagined), to show up at the dealer thinking they have a free coupon for repairs for problems they don't even have. If there is a safety item that affects your car, Toyota will issue a campaign letter and inform you of the problem and ask that you come in to have it fixed. Common sense would dictate that if there was an issue affecting the safety of an airbag, you would recieve a letter. There isn't so you won't. I'm just telling you how it works. Not how I would like it to work ,just how it is.

^ EXACTLY....

TSBs are not for Us to bring our cars in on.... they are for "IF" we have a specific issue or problem, when a general fix has been found for it within the Toyota Service Community

"IF" you had a significant, and warranty covered issue and brought it in, they would check TSBs to see if there was any broadly recognized solution to that problem. If there wasn't, they'd have to figure out the problem/solution themselves.

If you have no issues with your car, and bring it in, thinking that in the future you may have an issue, it's up to YOU to pay for that ghost hunt, even if there is a service bulletin about it, as your car may not even ever experience the problem.

If there is a significant problem, there will be a service campaign or recall issued and that will be conducted on the dealer's dime... unless something noticably bad (and warranty covered) happens to your car in the meantime, any "looking for something" must be paid for yourself.

yeah, i kinda know how they work....and like i wrote, don't know an airbag tsb....but that wasn't my point, nor did it seems like it was yours.
mine was more about the ac tsb and the specified cutoff vin whereafter the fix was made. lower vins are still allegedly getting the "can't replicate" denial as witnessed by several previous posts even when folk say my freakin' car is hot!
my initial response wasn't specifically addressing the airbag, as much of yours wasn't. as i read it we were kind of going off topic and discussing tsbs "globally" and "how they work".
(never saw you as a company man....jk)
"the tsb omsbudsman"....jk

The AC TSB is just for early production 05 cars and it increases the refrigerant charge 1.1oz. I can't imagine a dealer refusing help if you brought your car in and had a complaint of slow cool down and the car fell into this VIN range. They do get paid to perform these repairs. If your dealer cannot help you with this it's time to find another dealer! And my response was more to the title of this wonderful thread-" TSB help idiotic dealerships....." Is it really the dealership who is idiotic?
