Default Universal Mufflers

Anyone install an universal muffler?

Does it have a raspy sound to it?

Notice any lag on take off?

If I save up for an exhaust system I'm looking for a nice tone.

Sorry Styllis I like you setup but the Magnaflow mufflers are to raspy for me.

Before the box I've always had american so I'm use to the american V8 sound. I had a Camero, S10 V6 with straight throughs.

If I have to I will get a header.

Thanks

all i can say is that all exhasuts are basically the same. i never ever would get an exhaust i will always save up my money and keep the ability to chose whatever style muffler i want with whatever pipesize i want. all the while saving money.
check my cardomain or my gallery to look at my pics. i have always had universal. i like the sound pretty decent and quiet with the silencer and loud and ballsy and awesome with the silencer removed. not much raspyness here.

It depends on what you want out of your exhaust system. If you want a whole system of course it would be nicer. performance wise I would say the difference between custom and a whole cat back would be minimal. However, with the whole system, chances are you might get harrassed by the cops for aftermarket exhaust.

I have a custom 2" exhaust after the cat, kept the stock resonator and a V6 Eclipse OEM muffler. I picked the V6 eclipse because itz the only V6 OEM muffler with a single tip outlet. I def feel a decent gain in upper power, lost minimal low end and sound wise wasn't all that different. However, if you do go custom removed the stock resonator and weld on a universal can muffler from Ebay. You will be sorry, because its gonna go GRRRRRRRGRRRR at idle and BRAAHAHAHBARAAZZZZZZZZZZZZ when you go WOT.

i have a dual outlet, single inlet universal muffler and im pretty content with it. it gave my car a lower pitch sound, not that rapsy fart sound most ricers have. towards the red is where it sounds really sweet.

it depends i couldn't vote because it's too much in the air

i had a custom exhaust on my old focus and it sounded so sick!! but never had a problem with the authorities (thats because i don't drive like an ___) my buddy with his civic and his full tanabe exhaust without the silencer was louder than mine and sounded liks an angry lawnmower. i had a flowmaster from a mustang welded together. the problem with my custom exhaust. is that the sound/tone was very inconsistant. sometimes it would sound like a formula ford and other times it would sound ouiet but noticeable. im spending my money on a bolt on just because if i don't like it i can change a brand and type of mufflering (is that a word?) it would give me. i'm not worried about performance because if i wanted performance it would have rear drive, pushrods, and a solid rear

just my $0.02

Get the universal and pay a shop to make the front pipe and install hangers. I did and have a total of 55 bucks into my cat back and it sounds just as good as most of the expensive ones I've heard and seen.
