Default k&n might be better

It looks great but from previous experience you are not really going to get that much more air in there. I doubt the dyno will show anything because the car is not moving. A drop in filter lets the car stay alot cleaner. You will be sucking all the dirt from the motor towards the filter area...

Yeah. . . I found out about the leak today. . . that's why it was so loud.

Also, the seal around the filter is not grade A, and can be prone to leaks. . . and since it is aft of the filter, this can lead to problems.

I'm gonna get an Injen intake, but this will have to do for now:

IMPORTANT STEPS:
1. Seal the stock box, either by cutting the OEM filter(bad, because shards may enter the engine), or by sealing with tape (I used both HVAC tape and duct tape, and used MANY layers)
2. Melt any rough edges on the cut, on the OEM pipe, to ensure that no loose plastic shards enter the engine. . . a lighter will do. I also used another few layers of HVAC and duct tapes to cover the edge.
3. Seal the filter, by using layers of tape(again I used the same tapes)

A) the xB may see some slight power loss, as the factory airbox already draws from a cool air source. I can't imagine any significant/worthwhile gains, drawing in underhood heat/air
B) the xA's OEM intake already draws air from the same location as the poorman intake, so there won't be a significant increase. Any gains will be a result of the larger filter and the less restrictive material.

Secondly, when mounting on an xA, the battery will have to be removed. You will probably have to remove your battery tray ( I did, but this may not be necessary). You will also need to use an air filter that has a slightly tapered head. . . a cone shape.

pretty nifty.........thats just what i was looking to do, wasn't sure what to do with the mf though, i thought about using a reg, generic intake from the auto parts store ($50 bucks) and drilling a hole for the sensor and using self tapping bolts/screws.........any suggestions about this method? anyways, i have an upgraded muffler, and it sounds good, but im looking for a bit deeper tone, i think this might help.....ill post pics after i do it...

I suggest you shred the filter and use it as a seal, and make sure ever clamp is double, triple, and quadruple sealed. Secondly, I HIGHLY recommend that you get some PVC pipe or flexible tubing, and connect the ends inside the empty OEM filter box, so that you get a deeper tuned (less resonator effect from the box) and a free-er flow.

hmm....lowes and homedepot are closed.......wonder if walmart will have these parts i can assemble it at a 24hr car wash! away from the rain and in the light.......also....so basically you attached a filter where the stock intake gets its air from, and removed the stock filter? (with some minor adjustments to seal it)

Looks like a little like the Blitz intake. I rather have an intake that looks like this pic. Its nice to have the Injen short ram intake, but when its time to change filters, its a pain in the a** to do. Take out the battery then the whole intake just to change the filter? Nice job! If this design runs like the Injen intake, then definitely, I am game for this!!!!!

could i simply take the piece of tube that the MAF is on, and attach a generic intake on either side of it......so that it will only cost me like 50 bucks for a "real looking" intake?

eh... think about it man! If you attach filter to both ends of the MAF sensor, ur throttle body will have no tubes connecting to it therefor defeating the purpose of the whole intake system! might as well remove the whole freaking intake and run without tubes.
