Default Used tC dealer pricing example.

I've read some threads about what people are hoping to get in trade, etc., but today as i passed HB Scion and saw this 05 stock automatic with 18,951 miles lotted, i had to share....
(my favorite selling points are the advertised "inside hood release" and non existent "body side moldings" as "other accessories".) it was also odd that i could walk 15 feet away and pay almost two grand less for a new one.

apparently, because last week there was an RS1.0 used "originally $23,995.00" on the window reduced to $21,995.00, parked next to this one and it's gone now. who knows what they actually paid.

Well an RS1 at that price isn't as bad, but I still find it amusing that used cars cost more.

AND ITS AN 05!! What is wrong with people? I could see if this was at a honda dealer and the person had no clue what it costs. But you can see other tcs in the picture. They could easily look at an 06 and see its cheaper.

I should sell my 06.

yeah i bought my 05 tc used an they wanted to charge me 20thousand dollars but got it down to 15000, the thing that ____ed me off was they added the standard features as a added cost, like. the moonroof was 1000 dollars more, rims , and even the stock radio. idk sorry just wanted to vent.....

I would have walked off as soon as the crooks tried to charge me for things that come standard on the car. Even if they came down on the price I wouldnt have bought from them just for trying to screw me.

As far as the resale though.. welcome to Toyota. They suck to buy used, but are great to own.

Ok, but has anyone here actually sold their car for more than they paid for it? We see these tCs on lots or advertised everywhere, but I want to know if people are really paying this much for one.

Anyone want to buy an Rs1.0, lowered on TRD springs, for $23,000? lol. Shoot. If I could sell it for that much, I'd have a nice $6K in my pocket after paying off the loan!

Even more distressing is that the tC above has nearly 19k miles on it and is stickered higher than a new one! I haven't even hit 15k yet.

One reason dealerships do this is because there are actually suckers out there that would fall into the dealership's scam....believe it or not, people are stupid!

with that said, do you know how bad it would suck for that stupid person to find out what the car cost when brand new?!?!? damn, i would feel sorry for them.

salesman tell me the reason why the tC is priced so high when used is b/c it's in such high demand. people don't want to wait month for one. i donno about you guys, but i don't think there is a long wait for scions at all when ordering one brand new. and i don't even think scions are in high demand anymore. maybe when it first came out, but not now. toyota dealer down the roda from my house has about 7-9 tC parked in the front entrance area.

my salesman told me the wait would be 2-4 weeks for my tC. then he called me back a week later telling me it would be even later, but i think he was actually trying to sell me the bsp tC that i test drove in his lot. it's new, but has 50 miles on it (26 of it was from me) he was persuading me to buy that one. the one on the lot had: tint windows, ped spoiler, emx, ipod HU, and carpets. I ordered a tC with emx, ped spoiler, fogs, and leds. the dealership was willing to add my accesorries with no labor charge and write me a check of 250 b/c i didn't want the ipod HU. i still rejected it b/c i wanted a new car. turns out 2 weeks after i ordered my tC it came already. i had a cool salesman that let me take a new tC out by myself and he knew just about everything on the car, but i don't appreciate the sales gimick. but what do you expect, they're salesman.

anyways, got a little side tracked... my trade in value at honda was 15,500 with some play from honda. at time of appraisal i had 2277 miles. wanted to see how much the car was actually worth for the dealers. i was interested in the si.

the msrp of my tC was 19920. i'm sure the dealer can sell it for close to that price.

most ppl probably haggle down the prices on the used tCs a lot more than we think...

Call me crazy, but why not keep a car that goes up in value?

Didn't your grandma ever tell you to not buy things that go DOWN in value?

We are all guilty of it, mainly through our car purchases, however perhaps these Scions are something out of the ordinary.

Anyways, if I were to sell my Scion, I'd just buy another new one and resell that.

However, I plan on keeping mine...
