Used tC dealer pricing example.
i'm not sure what your talking about? the tC going up in value?!? our tCs are not going up in value by any means. i'm not sure where you got the idea of selling your tC and then buying another new one thinking that you can sell it for more than what you paid for.
kbb is a reference about how much a car's valued at. it's just a regerence. like the salesman told me: "kbb doesn't buy your car". which makes sense to me. i don't think anyone would get kbb value on their trade in. and kbb can be off.
my o6 tc is valued at 17xxx according to kbb, but honda wants is offering little over 15,500.
only cars that i notice going up in value these days are the Si and prius. it's hard for a car to gain value, i'm talking about normal daily driver cars.

my reference to value going up was as what the kbb is showing. the tc's are holding thier value really well, the dealership i took mine to was very surprised on how much it was worth. I'm selling mine very close to the brand new sticker price, so i'll let you guys know what it sells for
A hate other sales people and dealerships that give me and my dealership a bad rep. Yes the tC holds its value very well and can be at or around the price of a new one. The used one is certified giving it a 7 year 100,000 mi warr. instead of 5 year 60,000 mi. A scion dealership should also know it is pure price on used vehicles. The price should be fair. I own an xB and have the passion with scion and toyota to make sure my customers are happy.
JDM_JUICE2: i would love to know how much your going to get out of your tC. what accessories did you add on there.
i believe you/we would get the most out of our trade in if we bought the car stock with no add ons. i think the spoiler is only worth 100, and the rims are worth100-200 when trading in. kinda sucks when you spent some money on accessories like me... (2100 worth)
i might try carmax to see how much it's worth to them. i'm not going to get rid of the tC yet, but i do plan on getting the 07-08 si in the future, so i just wanna know what the dealers are willing to pay for our tCs... maybe by next year i won't be so hyped about the si and keep the tC, never know though....

Regarding "rare" colors, yes you cannot get that anymore, but also, as time passes, the car gets older too... so it probably just helps to hold the value, as opposed to raising it higher...
We all have to remember that these cars are so new. Yes Scion set out to sell at a certain price based on statistical factors and demographics, however, it turns out that these cars are quite a bargain if being bought stock... hence the high re-sale value.
Now in 10 years times, perhaps the prices will have adjusted (without indexing for inflation)...
Or from another glance, this might be their whole intention, because they know half the buyers will add all those expensive add-ons, and when you consider the price with those, the cars aren't as much of a bargain.
But I'm still a believer that they're underpriced due to their recent introduction into the market.

I laugh out loud when I see used '04-'05's being sold more than '06's.
My dealership, Carmax in Kenosha, Wisconsin....
Has silver '06 tC for sale. They are asking $17,988, it has 12 k miles.
Okay....my xA. I paid 14,500.
Now it's worth, 15,005 if retailed.
But trade in, 11,975
Sold to private party, 13,435
So in other words, they would make extra 4 grand behind my back if I traded it in.

I traded my 05 tC manual(in flint mica) with 49000 miles on it.
It had been smashed front and back once ($4700) not my fault.
and just recently beat to death with hail damage ($5400)
I had damaged 2 rims (Damn cell phone) and they gave me $14200 trade on my 06 rs2
KBB says its worth like $11000 in that condition with that many miles so I took it and ran.
It sold the following week although I dont know for how much.
Good resale. dont know many cars that do that.

Dealers will mark anything up cause suckers will come in and buy it.
Rudy Luther for example in the twin cities (that is where I bought mine). The sales people were excellent to me, but a few months ago in the Toyota used side of the dealership they had an xA on the floor, here is how they described it:
2005 Scion xB (thats right.. wrong model all together)
Then of course they listed everything from the gas cap to the brake pedal as options. The car had somewhere around 14k miles on it I think and they wanted well over 16,000 for it. Stupidest thing ever. I was there picking mine up from the sunroof service campaign when I saw it, and made sure to tell my fiance of the complete nonsense out loud so the sales people and potential customers could here me. Hopefully if someone was actually looking for an xA there they went straight to the scion lot and bought new one, for less money
