well i have the same purr
my buddys 03 celica has it
my moms matrix has it
i think its a toyota thing
i hate it
expecaially when im at a show and the guy next to me has this super quiet nissan..

it sucks
but you just gotta deal with it
on another note...if u super our tcs engine..the purr goes away...and the tick gets quieter.

Ok i said the same thing in the other forum, and i'm not trying to be sarcastic but...could it be the FAN? The fan is extremely loud and make a Purrring sound...

so what is that ticking noise. I hear it when I drive. I am concerned about it, but not really concerned about because I don't have a CEL or anything. But still that ticking sound makes me feel uncomfortable with my car.

I also have the same problem. However, I noticed it even more when I turned the windshield "defroster" on. Once I turn off the defroster it goes away.

See if there is any relation to when you hear the noise and if you can the AC or defroster on.

^^Our Camry made a ticking sound at idle, took it in and it was a torn CVS boot...

the ticking sound is caused by the strut bar. I have a dc sports bar..whatever sits under the bar where that wire harness is vibrates and taps against the strut bar.. I know you're thinking 'it couldn't be that loud.' well i put a trust scion wristband in between the two..and whamo!! no more ticking sound.

I have that same purr. I know exactly what you are talking about. Camrys make it too. My car made it since it was brand new. It's a normal noise, quit stressing.
