is the understeer on the tc that bad? and from what i read, the weight distribution is 61 39 (heavier in the front). i dont know much about auto xing, but maybe that could be quite bad.

If this is the case then a larger diameter rear swaybar should do the trick. I noticed that the auto's come with a 21mm rear sway compared to the manual's 18mm. This is probably due to the extra weight of the auto.

Find a friend with an auto tC and switch sway bars for a few days. See if you notice any difference. Of course you will have to setup a baseline test first.

The TRD rear sway is adjustable but sometimes these can be too twitchy. Either too soft or too stiff..no in between. Time will tell.

What is the weight difference. I would like to know please.

Also, though the same tires, if you're holding back on accelerating out of the turn, wouldn't that do it?

Not that I know what I'm talking about or could do any better, but shouldn't you make the tires squeel just a little - all the time? I read that slipping slightly is faster.

i'm still wondering how you guys got 30 runs at the solo2 event? where you guys the only 2 cars there. the most i've ever heard from other states events is 10 to 12 runs depending on the number of entries and like i said before here in the san diego chapter we're lucky if we get 5 runs.

something smells fishy here.

also, take to consideration that all autox tracks are set up differently. there are times when the vette's and muscle cars have better times than miata's and mr2 because of how the track is configured by the clubs. the tC would benefit if the track slow speed coreners with long straights to take advantage of the motor and gearing.

i may be talkin outta my ___ on this one cuz i know nothing about auto X car physics but.....
maybe the glass top makes the tC less rigid than the rsx base. more body flex?
weight is most likely a big part of the problem too. the tC is gonna be my luxury car... non race.
best of luck with the autoX-ing ;-)
have fun

In regards to how we get all the laps, these arent sanctioned events or solo x events. About 15 of my friends set up a track at a huge parking lot (3/4 mile by 1/2 mile). We have transponders so the timing is very accurate.

What did you think "smells fishy?" Why would I be lying about this?

cause 30 laps doesn't sound right at a solo2 event. like i said earlier the most i've seen personally is 8 to 9 laps and other chapters have done 10 to 12 laps per event. so, when you said 30 that didn't sound right.

so, you guys set your own cones in a parking lot. do you guys have a permit when you do this? i'm going to assume you do cause the cops would be all over that.

Too much understeer => Learn to newbiedrift

Ex:

1. coming into the turn pretty damn quick

2. slow for turn, put ur front wheel close to the inside

3. Start playin with the E-brake once you've realized... "hmm.. my back tires need to be alot farther than they are" (for Rear-Wheel just frggin floor it) j/k

4. Make sure you counter-steer, apply proper amt. of gas, and don't leave that e-brake up!

5. Have fun with your new bag of tricks!

I don't my tC yet but I just hear from the grapevine that the handling on the tC could be greatly improved. I'm considering investing $1000 into Tien or Ground Control coilovers when they come out. Maybe upgrade the suspension and let us know what happens!

The handling of the tC is great unless you are trying to take corners at 85 MPH and then only the true expensive sports car can meet that criteria.

This car handles very well considering the sticker price. True, you could drop a lot of money into the suspension to greatly improve the handling if you were planning on auto-x'ing it or something - but at what cost...ride comfort, etc.
I just picked up my tC yesterday (Flint Mica m/t)...I have been driving a 96 2.0L VW Jetta w/ a Shine suspension ($1k) and it will definitely out-handle the tC easily...even w/ the stock 14" wheels...But, my wife hates to ride in it because the ride is a bit harsh for her...
Maybe just try a rear sway bar 1st ...although I'm not sure how much an impact this will have on the tC's multilink rear -vs- the VW's "1 piece" rear beam.
Or maybe at 34y/o I'm just a bit tired of sacrificing ride quality for a suspension set-up that I'll really only use 10% of the time (if that). Like I said earlier - the tC has great handling for the price. Just my 2 cents.

Cheers,
Josh

Installed TRD springs, hotchis strut tie bar and TRD rear sway bar last night. Day and night... Well worth $487 shipped Can't say that the ride is harsher - it's just more precise, more controlled. Had to do an emergency lane change on the way home from my buddy that did most of the install - the car was very predictable, no hint of oversteer at double lane change going about 65 mph.

Did you use the stiffer or softer hole on the sway bar?

RSX
Length 172.2 in.
Width 67.9 in.
Height 54.7 in.
Weight 2721 lbs.
Wheel Base 101.2 in.
Ground Clearance 6 in.

Tc
Length 174 in.
Width 69.1 in.
Height 55.7 in.
Weight 2905 lbs.
Wheel Base 106.3 in.
Ground Clearance 5.2 in.

Discuss.
My feeling is the wheelbase, plus the weight made the difference. My bmx bike turns tighter and faster than my road bike.

Softer for now. I can change it within 10 minutes or so.

You got to use the advantage of TQ for TC, even RSX corner is better.
what ever is better, you have to used it. That is how you win.

RSX corner runn better, but Tc can run better at straight. alot time is base on driver decision & skill if all the car has same power.
