Default VVTI..?!~

Ok i just changed my oil to mobil 1 syn 5w-30 and i am at 1500 miles....

so i am driving through town and started to drive my car into the 4k-5k zones for the first time with my tc...and when i get near 4,800k-5k i stopped around 5,200...i hear this wierd ratteling sound. its faint but its not the window or panel sound cause i hear that too just alot loduer..

...but this sound is coming from the engine...i thought maybe its not getting enoungh air..

this is the first sports compact car i had and heard it has vvti which might be the sound, but i thought it engaged around 6,200 ...

i am currently afraid to even go to 5,500 in any gear because it sounds like its restrited and seems like it will blow up..hehe

or is it normal...cept the ratteling sound!

any input is nice!

It might be the VVT-i. I dont think it kicks in at 6000rpm though seeing this engine redlines at 6500. I would think the VVT-i is a all time thing because its variable valve timing with inteligence (I think)

around 6200 rpm the tach limiter will push your rpm back repeatedly. i done this before.. when you meant rattle you mean the engine start revving constantly.. like ROAM!ROAM!ROAM!ROAM!ROAM!...

at 5000 rpm? never experienced that.

VVT-i is just like any other technology like VTEC and VANOS

Actually, its nothing like vtec. Vtec adjust lift, vvti adjust timing. Two different things. VVTLI on the celica GTS is like vtec.

There should be no noise. Take it to the dealer and hopefully they can fix it. Odds are they won't be able to do anything but its worth a try. Until it can be fixed, I would no rev it up then as to avoid any damage.

i would change the oil back to regular 5w-30.. mobil brand is fine.. same stuff toyota uses.. if that doesn't fix it.. take it back to the dealer..

No, the car shouldn't make any noises.

And you shouldn't be a racing an econobox. A tC isn't a racecar.
