Default weight reduction for our tC - list!

ive been thinkin about the whole weight reduction thing for a minute, supposely 85% of our performance is lost from weight.

i was wondering if you guys know various ways to reduce the weight on our tC in DETAILs and INSTRUCTIONs, also a possible estimate of how much weight is lost.

whether its redesigning, replacing, or removing our engine components, trunk, seats, wheels, doors etc., if everyone can throw down their ideas and what they already did, we can create a huge list and combine that crap into a LIGHTER TC; possibly 300lbs lighter.

lets get started!

----list---
NST entire pulley kit reduces the engine weight down to 3.75lbs... originally the OEM stock about 5lbs

"85% of our performance is lost from weight"? What in the world does that mean?

if you remove unnecessary parts and things in your car then that will help a little. ie spare tires, a/c, radio.

Most cars out there are designed for comfort and that usually means that there are a lot of pieces in the car designed to support your body and make you feel warm and fuzzy. Well, most of the interior of your car, even just the panels, can weight as little as 5 lbs. and as much as 50 lbs. All depends on what you remove. Power to weight ratio comes into play.

Less weight = More power being able to be used from the engine to move the car forward.

Yeah, I know that less weight makes you quicker, F = ma, etc. etc. I was just quoting the statistic that seems to simultaneously say absolutely nothing and be fabricated at the same time. 85% of what performance? Performance if the car was weightless? Why 85%? How could you have calculated that?

I've seen plenty of threads about reducing weight in the tC over the last 10 months (since I got my tC) and they all pretty much come down to this: You can lose SOME weight (~75 lbs) without making yourself miserable, but to lose enough weight to make a significant difference, you're going to have to basically GUT the car hardcore like a race car. And even then you're only going to save around 250lbs. And thats including lightening the frame, replacing bolts and such with lighter ones, lighter control arms, carbon fiber parts (VERY expensive for the amount of weight you'll save), etc etc. All VERY expensive proceedures. In the end, you're better off spending your time and money and running a wet 30shot of NOS.

Yeah, definately not worth it. But to get 1 or 2/10 off your time, 250 lbs could be useful. But still a lot more work than it's worth.

Yeah 1/10th is ALL you're gonna save on that. You're better off putting the money into better/more performance parts, unless your tC is JUST a drag car or JUST a track car. (i.e. not a daily driver). I'm not saying don't pull out your back seat and spare when you go to the track. It'll save you a few hundredths, but thats about all.

I agree, that figure is total BS until quantified by the OP.

85%, rofl. Does that setup consist of a wheel stuck to the crank?

Want to know what's even funnier? I bet I'm taller than you too! hahaha

6'3'' and 155 lbs on a good day. EXTREMELY FAST METABOLISM!!! Must eat around 5K calories a day to stay around the same weight and more to gain. Ever try eating every 2 hours and about 5-600 calories per sitting? Hard when you have to work and want to have fun.

Sorry, back on topic.

Do this when you are swapping in a 6 speed transmission and a JDM Supra Engine for maximum performance gains.
