Weight: tC vs RX-8...
Hey,
No really pressing issue here, but I was just wondering...
The tC is considered "heavy" at 2905 lbs. (Curb weight from Edmunds http://www.edmunds.com/new/2006/scio...enav..8.Scion* ).
The RX-8, however, is listed as having a curb weight of 3029 lbs. (and a "gross weight of 3810 lbs., again from Edmunds http://www.edmunds.com/new/2005/mazd...enav..8.Mazda*), and it's described in their review as being lightweight (in the Powertrains and Performance section).
That seems a bit weird, but maybe they mean it being relative to the horsepower numbers, with the manuals being 160 hp (tC) and the 238 hp (RX-8 ).
Dya figure that's it?
hmmmm.... gee, and if when the supercharger comes out and it really does get into like 200+ hp... cooooool....
(I went to the Mazda Zoom Zoom Live event in Los Angeles and drove the RX-8 around. I still can't get over how it looks, but damn! that car's fun to drive around a twisty track!)
Man, I can't get over how much of a difference it must be in the Lotus Elise (190 hp/138 ft-lbs. torque and 1975 lbs.) compared to our car (160 hp/163 ft-lbs torque and 2905 lbs.).
Wow, hunh?

weight is big factor when it comes to speed, push a cart w/ 50 lbs in it compared to if the cart had 300 lbs in it.
and i like the rx8, wish there were more cars like that out there... mmm rotaries. and it being RWD makes it so much better in my eyes.

i loved my rx7 but it wasnt without its problems. it drank waaay too much gas but it was too hard to stay off the turbos. the car was slow or fast no middle ground. i love the sound of a rotary engine though. ohh yeah forgot heh it was 2800+ and they considered it light weight at the time for factory.
I like the RX8 but it has a lack of power potential unless it just hasn't been found yet. GReddy's turbo kit adds a little (very little) HP but for way too much money. The RX7 was much more capable.
I had a 94 RX7 and have driven an RX8. I think the RX7 handled better. The RX8 was a better daily driver for handling but I've never taken a corner as fast as in the RX7. The RX7 didnt feel like it would ever let go but when it did you would lose it big time. The RX8 has to be really pushed to get performance out of it. The suspension on the RX8 while stiff is set for more of a daily driver than the RX7 was.
