Default What About Tinting?

Who of you plan on tinting your tC? If you plan on tinting, what percentage, and what brand do you think would be good? I've read that 20% would look good all around.
I've been reading that 3M, Llumar and SolarGard are good brand of tint? But is it true, or tint is just tint? What else should i know about tint? like reflection or whatever?

Ok thanks for all the feedback again. I'm enjoying the hunt for stuff for the tC i dont even have yet haha

Also, what is the cost of putting 20% all around?

I'm also thinking tint for practical reasons:

1: Block UV rays and keep the car cooler
2: cut down on people (cops) noticing the amount of blinking gadgets I have inside while driving

I've never had tint before so this will be an experience.

NJ doesn't allow any tint on the windshield or diver/passenger windows

the tint is regulated by state laws... for Louisiana the law has different numbers that are permitted depending on the window.... so I have 35% on my driver/passenger doors, something like43% on my back door windows and 50% for the back glass...

I have 35% on the front w/ a 5% strip across the front windshield. Everything seems to match nicely. For me, there was really no need to tint the rear over again. Check my profile. I live in NY and I am quite sure that is illegal, but I have not been stopped yet...knock on wood

Ok i don't care about the Laws haha. I just want my car to look nice. I've seen a lot of luxury cars with tint on the driver/passenger front windows, and i live in CA, where you ARE NOT supposed to tint those. oh well. But yah, how about the Brand of Tint guys?

Looks like i might be getting 20% all around, and a 5% on the windshield. I think that would look cool, but then again, i have to see what kind of tint, like titanium, charcol blah blah.

any info on this? the Brand and color of Tint? and most importantly the Cost. How much should one expect to pay to have tint installed for the tC, which is 5 windows is it :?:

Ok Thanks for the replies

I paid $150 to have mine done... that gives a lifetime warranty against all things except Windex...

but windex is great if you want your tint to change to purple... :-)

I have 20% on my front windows. Like scionmilktruck said tinting your front windows In NY is illegal but I really don't care. 20% matches the factory tint on the XB (Even though they are 2 completely different ways of tinting - Stock XB is smoked glass the front windows are film) U can tell the difference from the inside but not from the outside.

As far as pricing and brand....the place I went used Llumar and they charged $100 for both windows. They warranty them for lifetime except if you use Windex....

Hope that helps!

Sorry 2 hear that man.....that sucks!! The guy at the shop read me my "rights" sort of speak before actually taking my money just making sure he was covering his ___.

As far as the cop giving you a ticket he was really being an a-hole. In my previous car I was pulled over for the same reason even though mine were 20% but the cop just gave me one of thos "Fix it By 2 morrow before sundown and you wount get a ticket" speach....again...Im sorry! That really sucks!

PS: What State do you live in?

Thanks for the quick replies. Ok so i should expect about $150 to tint all, that being 5 windows?, the windows on the tC along with the 4 inches of the windshield?

And wow, $200 is a lot for a ticket, that does suck. I would think they would give you a fix-it, not a ticket. hopefully LAPD and SDPD have better things to worry about than my illegal tint haha.

Now, for those that live in LA or SD, can you recommend a place to get Tint. Specifically Llumar, since i've read good things about it. ok thanks again.

Hopefully all you guys don't get caught by the Friendly Cops. haha

my $150 was for a BMW 325i... so that is a sedan... I didn't get the strip on the windshield (already have the blue tint embedded in glass)... that would have been free... they had a cheaper package that a coworker got and it looked very similar, supposedly wouldn't last as long... well 3 years later they look the same...

<reiterate> no ammonia, no windex <reiterate>

35% front and 15% back. The back are dark making the front look lighter so i havent been harassed by the cops, guess they see tint on the front so much here, they dont care anymore.
oh and i paid $140 for the 5 windows.

That sounds good, making the Back Darker than the Front, but then again, the tC is just a 2 door. Would this scheme work on this car haha??
hmmmm
oh yah, i just read that 3M Tint is scratch resistant, is that necessary, or are all tints scratch resistant?

Still not sure about the Llumar tint.

Ok, now to wait for suggestions on places to get my future car tinted at, either in SD or LA (ie. Alhambra, Montery Park, San Gabriel, Pasadena areas) LA is so big haha. :D

I'll be tinting my tC's front windows just like my corolla, front lighter than the back. A really good place to get it tinted in the L.A. area, (san pedro to be exact) is Miami's. they have a guy come out to the place. he's really good and i think he still does it all by hand instead of a machine cutting it all out. Also theres 5 Star tinting. Its on PCH in torrance.

what really sucks is when the cops get you for illegal tint and make you peal it off right then & there. When I was in Cali visiting a friend who went to UCLA we got pulled over. Turns out in California it is ILLEGAL to have the front windows tinted AT ALL, unless they come that way from the factory.

So we were forced to pull the tint off with a razor blade and then the officer hit my friend with the $195 ticket. Tint at your own risk.

If you want to see the laws for every state this is a good website:

Wha??? Man that cop must have been having a bad day. Yes here in CA it's illigal...but your friend could have said that he'd rather get a fix-it ticket and have a "professional" talke it off.
On my way up north with my b/f we got pulled over for window tint (after going 120 the whole way :D ) and he got a fix-it ticket...cost him $25 but oh well. The cop then pulled away before we did, which their not supposed to, and then pulled someone else over for window tint down the road.
(If you get pulled over and the cop tells you to roll your windows up to see if you have tint, you don't have to, but they wont be happy they didnt trick you)

What car was it? I have a theory that if u have tint on the front side driver/passenger, on a luxury car, they won't pull you over. but then again, its just my theory haha. just curious too. and yah, that sucks ___. WTF, if he made you take out the tint there, why the ticket? also, how dark was the tint exactly?
k well sorry to hear about your story man

For you guys saying that the cops are being dicks, they aren't the ones writing the laws. No, they don't HAVE to enforce them, and if you have your windows down, I don't really see a problem with having tint...

However, the laws are in place for the cops safety. They want to be able to see what's in the car when they approach it. That's why the law is in place. It's not because they don't want your car to look nice :-/

I HATE the fact that I can't tint my windows, and if I knowingly tinted my windows against the law, I sure as hell am not going to complain if I get a ticket for it. Grow up guys.
