When do you SHIFT?
Hey just as im kinda a new manual car driver, the tc bring my first manual car, at what point in the meter do you shift for max power or for fuel economy? I was taught at the 3 for every gear. What are your opinions?

If you want to shift for power, short of power shifting, you shift higher in the RPM range.
You manual states when to shift for MPG which is around or a little over 3000 RPM.
If you're learning how to drive a manual you might want to focus on actually learning how to drive it before beating the crap out of your clutch, bending your valves and killing you synchros trying to shift for power before you have how to shift period down.
When I shift depends on what I'm tryin' to accomplish...
if I'm tryin' to save on gas, I'll jus cruise like an old fart and shift at every 10 MPH...
if I'm tryin' to merge onto freeway traffic, I'll shift about 500 RPM shy of redline... and I might even skip fourth gear and go straight to fifth since third will usually get me to 70 mph just fine...
When you shift is also going to depend on the conditions of the road as well as the amount of traffic that you have to contend with... rain is prolly going to require that you shift earlier so that you don't break traction and lose control of the car...
when in doubt, find a ginormous empty parking lot and practice, practice, practice...

if im normal driving i shift between 4-6k..
from stop usually once i feel the car moving, i shift to 2nd.
if i want to accelerate more , i shift around 3500rpm to 4000rpm.
I don't know why i can't smooth shift to 2nd under 3000rpm.
2nd to 3rd around 3500rpm,
rest is at 3000rpm

I usually shift around 3 or 4 but i rarely use first gear. If you wanna save gas and have a smoother ride, dont use first because its basically pointless. Plus our ride has no problem taken off at 2nd.
