is that 10 or 20 miles a day??

cause if its 10 then ur driving 50 miles a week... so ur tank lasts about 200 miles in 4 weeks..

i drive 50 miles a day. but my tank lasts about 300-320 miles

Isn't it bad to start on 2nd with VVTI? I always thought it adapts to your driving style. So being that, won't it be bad if you start from 2nd most of the time? When you need the 1st gear, wouldn't it give you less output?

^^ good point, we need some clarification!! cause I know the ECU is constantly learning fuel curves, so that would probably effect the first gear when you really need it.. but I have no idea lol

Well I don't know about the factory manual but the Man-Law manual clearly states in section 7 paragraph 4 subset 9-2

-Ye must take thy whip into the redzone at all times, also known as the danger zone.

that means 6250rpm or bust, my friend

check your owners manual, it actually tells you not to move away from a stop in 2nd gear.

look, if we didn't need 1st gear, and could just move away from a stop in 2nd gear, then the 2nd gear ratio would be the ratio used for 1st gear, and the rest of the ratios would be changed accordingly.

for people who don't know, not using 1st gear is mainly something for manual transmission pick-up trucks with really high torque. when they are not towing something, they start out in 2nd gear, but when towing a heavy load, they use 1st gear.

so domo, toyota, the company that designed, engineered, and built your car tells you that it is best to use 1st gear. if you think you know better than they do, you should just build your own car i suppose.

I should but i dont have the sources too but hey manuals in general tell people to wear seat belts at all times but im sure plenty of people dont wear there seat beats. Maybe they should make there own cars too. The point is, its my preference to take off at 2nd. What can I say, thats what I like. If you dont want to do what I do, then dont..simple as that. I know my where my engagement points are so I firmly feel that im not doing any major harm to my transmission, clutch, flywheel, engine, and so on.

I dont believe it has anything to do with VVTI but if that was the case then I could just press the reset button for the ECU. Any who, if you drive a mellow pace most of the time but then decide to punch it one random day, your ECU will give you the output you need. Just like when you decided to use first, the ECU will give you the output you need. Plus first gear is very short.
