3. Keep your stock parts (if you have the storage space). You'll sell your stock muffler for $50 only to buy it back for the same amount (if not more) later on (because of a fix-it ticket, damaged mod, or getting rid of the car)
I don't mod my car as an investment, I do it because it's a hobby and I enjoy adding things that I think make the car look better or ride better. Problems associated with mods come with the territory, which is why I stray from F/I or HIDs or anything that I feel will give me more problems than satisfaction. I stick with cosmetic and suspension and think it's definitely worth it. When the time comes to sell the car, I'd rather have enjoyed owning it more than making a few hundred dollars extra.

Back to topic after giving some more thought to this thread.I concluded that a lot of people that mod cars have no clue on how to work on them. They just want to throw on a bolt on part then not expect to maintain it.If you don't know how to work on and fix cars you really have no business modding them.Unless you can afford a tech to install them all and take it to them every screw up.My wife is into cars and she tells me all the time she can do this and that.I see the work she tries to do and I can tell she has no clue.High school shop class doesnt make you an expert.Constant reading and research also experience helps. Its like a lot of old timers tell the noobs on this site"Have you tried the SEARCH button?"There right look before you ask.
i dont anyone makes money back from modding their car (excluding classics and exotics).
I know someone who had a difficult time selling his TRD supercharged Toyota Tacoma. Even though the supercharger was bought new with the truck and dealer installed, people werent willing to pay more. He ended up taking the supercharger off to sell the truck. It took him another 3 months to sell the supercharger separately.

most of the rest was done by my bf and I so yes some "issues" are to be expected
my frustrations mainly come from the fact that my car was broken into and it took that a $ $ hole one hour to rip/destroy my car while it's taking me months to put it back to what it was

well, you might not mod your car, but a few elves might do a few things in the night while you sleep...wake up one morning and see your led have changed colors, and your lights are HID's, and your rims suddenly changed, and the car rides lower, and your interior is suddenly suede and then one day you find a boost gauge looking at you...
