Default Wierd Rattle/ Tapping when i hit 3RPM

I dont know what this is but it just started like a couple of days ago, everytime i hit 3rpm or above there is this loud (sorta) rattling sound coming from the engine bay...it's scaring me. I have no engine mods, ive had the car 1yr 3 months with only 9,800 miles on it..

WTF COULD IT BE???

O yeah i dont race my car or drive bad i baby it..shoot i hardly drive it. It's also a 5speed.

I hope it's not about this

if you didn't mod nor race, they should warranty it, regardless you should have the dealer check it out.

I know im hoping it's not that as well. I went to 2 dealers today, one heard the noise and wants to compare it to a new tC on monday (they were busy) the other dealer took me out driving in my tC for 30 minutes!! so he could try and figure out what it was. He said it's an odd sound, and for them to take apart the motor to try and find it would be a waste of time since they didnt know what it was. So he said wait until it get's worse. I was like DAMMIT! So both dealers hear a tapping noise but apparantly want my car to blow up before they fix it LOL

Get in contact with Stu Gotti on here (in the link above). Let him know what is going on with your motor. He will help you figure out if it is the same issue or not.
Best lead you got since your dealers don't know yet.

What date of manufacture and serial # is your car? Maybe we can pin this down to a bad batch of motors made during a certain time period.

^^ calm down, he doesnt even know if there is a problem yet. A little early to be seeing if it is part of a bad batch of cars.

Cars make a lot of noises, especially when you are looking for them. Top end noise is there as well, especially with solid lifter valvetrains. If it is a serious engine issue it will get worse relatively quick. They were probably on the right track by not tearing into it yet. You dont want to go tearing down and engine that has no issue. If the noise worsens take it back for them to look deeper.

if they were solid lifters we would have to adjust 'em at so many miles all the time

nothing wrong with solid lifters

but i perfer hydrolic lifters my self nearly maintenance free

poke around your hoold and look for any loose plastic, wires ets.....then get a mechanics stethescope and use that to listen for anomalies.......then if not....wait till valveheads start flying out of your exhaust ;)

Also check for loose parts and screws, etc. sometimes something wasn't tightened down or works loose. My lift gate strut was working loose early on and occasionally, I have had an exhaust clamp work loose too and both make some spooky noises that reverb all over the car.

Yeah im stil not sure what it is..and niether is the tech. It only happens when you press on the gas after 3rpm other then that you would never hear it.

check to see if anything is touching your air intake system/throttle body...my strut bar touches and makes a tapping rattling sound.

I really cannot self-diagnose your issue. I would just reccomend that you take it in if its under warranty. Keep us posted

I can hear a noise similar to what you are saying at around 3k, when you accelerate. But, from what I can tell (after about 5000 miles) it hasnt gotten any worse. My first thought was valvetrain noise, which is not uncommon, and it sounds worse once you hear someone say theirs died on them and you start listening for it. ;) I mentioned it when it was in for the recall to cover myself and they also thought it was nothing. But they did mention that I did the right thing by bringing it up so it is noted on my ticket. That way it was first mentioned under warranty so I am covered in case it turns out to be an issue. It is a little worse when the engine is cold and has been sitting for a day, which sounds like a lifter that is draining down. But we will wait and see if it gets any worse. For now I am not worried about it. After you tear enough of them down you begin to not panic when you hear certain things. So go in and mention it and let them listen and note it. That way you are covering yourself for later if it is something.
