Friday I had my first drive in winter conditions in my new tC and I'm happy to say it performed beautifully!
Driving conditions: 4:30 AM, highway covered with ice for long streches. Passed 3 spin accidents (one of them involving 4 cars!) on my way. ABS kicked in four times, mostly on downward slopes approaching stopped traffic after passing bridges. Short bursts, kept intended direction.
I never lost control of the car while turning or passing, even on narrow lanes (due to construction).

I must say, if you know what you're doing, there's no complain about how this car handles.



5-speed, VIN above 24k, no rattles, no other complaints.

Also forgot to mention: there was ice, but no snow on the ground whatsoever. Still waiting for the first snowfall (that will be THE test).

drove in that same junk today, had no problems. Although, accelrating into traffic.. its real easy to spin the tires... Im not used to the torque and light weight i guess.

 

i agree that if you know what you're doing you'll be fine, even on the stock tires. driving on bald tires in upstate new york for years taught me well

 

You guys must be pro drivers. Car sucks in the snow. I had about 1 ich in NY and tires have no sort of grip. I highly suggest snow tires. Not the cars fault but instead the shotty Potenzas they have on, can't expect 45 series tries to perform like a champ.

 

i agree with Chef...i live a couple of hours from Middletown(even though they put Bronx on my profile)..we had about an inch today and the tires don't handle the snow that well...car would be ok with some Blizzaks..did that with my 99 Beetle that had 17's and it really helped..

 

Yeah, I've heard about the snow driving problems. That's why I'm nervously waiting for the first snow around Detroit. Then we'll see how well we do, WarrenSteve! The winters are looooong around here. Come Spring, are we going to look or ?

yeah am in west michigan.. have the pirelli pzero nero's (most of you probably have heard me say this before that i have those tires).. and i'm waiting for a real snowfall as well.. wasn't here for that 6-10 incher that fell over the thanksgiving holiday.. but so far, the ice/slush mix it did well on.. abs came on once.. but i was testing to see if it would

then again pro drivers? well if you live in michigan, driving in crappy weather is something you learn to adapt to.. so maybe that makes us ice pro's? lol

I've driven on snow before in the tC and it isn't hard at all. In fact it's awesome. The car actually performed better than I expected. I don't know what you (chef and hal9000) are doing but it was fine. I drove it in about 1-2 inches, and also in the resulting slush while it was melting.

 

I'm pretty sure its all about how steep the hills are. living in northern Westchester just north of NYC sucked b/c you had steep hills to get through just to get anywhere. have my fingers crossed that now that I'm on the Island where its nice and flat it should be better, but several times a year for the last 5 years I was loving my jeep. :twisted:

 

Ill second that, south florida here, dont have to worry bout that stuff.

Tell me about it... the winters are definitely too long around here. I was home in Warren during that crappy weather but did not drive te TC, instead I drove my other car, '96 GTP. I ordered my snow tires last week and they should be arriving soon.

I guess none of you own a rear wheel drive truck. Now that really sucks! I have to pile ____ in the back of my Sonoma just to get traction. The Tc doesn't even come close to sucking that bad. Driven a lot of cars and the Tc gets about an 8 out of 10 for snow.
