Smile Wiper Blade Replacement

Hi everybody. I got over 68,000 miles on my 2005 tC. I have decided to start doing some maintenance on it since I rarely do lol. Well I do keep the car clean outside and under the hood and do the oil changes every 4500 miles but I haven't done other things.

This week I have or will do:

-Oil change (today)
-Wash car (last week)
-Vacuum car (last week)
-Engine Air filter (today)
-Rear brake work (next week)

I haven't replaced the wiper blades yet. They still work fine and wipe the water away. Not sure what bad wiper blades are. I guess people don't take car of their car?

When should I replace wiper blades?

My oem wipers went strong for 3 years before changing them. And that with constant usage.
I find the oem wipers to be THE best.

Mine worked for almost 2 years. Now I have the rainx ones that are a bit expensive but I like the look of them all the new cars have them now. They are the ones that look like 1 long piece of rubber.

my wife has the rain-x latitude and I have the bosch brand one's (don't remember the name)

Initial results, they both perform equally, busch look like they have better mounting design. I wasn't until three months down the road that the rain-x started to leave lines, so far the Bosch still look like new and perform like such. The rain-x look faded and are getting worse. One thing I should of done was to get them one inch longer, my wife has them like that and there are no clearing issues.

Like AU_eMpirE said, the whole thing looks like one by piece of rubber. I also replaced the oem one's with oem and lasted about a year, they weren't too bad though. I just think the Bosch blades look better and clean a heck of a lot better too.

Wipers blades should be replaced once a year but can go longer or shorter depending on the weather you experience.
Bad wiper blades can chatter, squeak, leave lines unclean, or smear water instead of wiping.

Bosch Icons or Valeo Ultimates are pretty good and made to last longer.
They are the kinds Carlanga is talking about.
Tire Rack has a buy one get one free for the Valeos if you are interested.

Well I don't have problems with my current wipers. Not sure what to look for. The rubber is clean and when I use them the water goes away and it doesn't make any noise or leave lines. Maybe people use them at a high speed?

I bought RainX blades online yesterday and should get them this week. I wanted the best and I heard they were. Hopefully I can use them for the rest of the car's life. I already got 68,000 miles on the original blades LOL.

Also I noticed that under the hood, the car still looks super clean. I think I just take care of it better or something. People say cars last until 100,000 miles and then they break down. I think my Scion will last like 500,000 miles haha.

Are you kidding, I havnt changed them out since I bought the car new in October 2005. But I do live in Texas. Maybe I will Change them before I get caught in a storm and they rip or something.
I had no Idea it was "Every 6 Months" Those ****'s are expensive. (Well not the Bosch.)

look at the wiper blade tip (the rubber strip that touches the glass), look for cracks or breaks in the rubber, then put your thumb on the rubber strip, it should flex the rubber and now look for cracks or breaks in the rubber. if there is none your blades are fine.

That doesn't sound good. I guess I will keep my old wipers just in case LOL. But I want to try these Rain-X ones. Can't wait until I put them on.
