Default Wiring harness problem

I installed some LEDs to my daytime running lights and some 8500k 9005 and 9006 bulbs to my headlights. Now the harnesses are all fried and burnt up. Any reason why? And has anyone had electrical problems like this or anything similar?

Thats funny. I installed some H.I.D.s on my 06 tc and my power windows did not work then my moon roof would not open. I dont know they are pretty sensitive to anything.

yeah, they were 80 watts for the low beams and 100 watts for the high beams. the fuses were blown and the sockets are going to have to be repalced, but i cant seem to find a fuse to check for the parking lights. anyone know where it is?

did you check under you dash right under the fuse relay door thing... you have to lay on you back and look up .. if its not there then its in the fuse box under the hood next to the battery .

I always found that the easiest way to hook up electrical stuff up is to just run an individual circuit. Saves a lot of trouble.

You need to run a ballast if you were not, which it sounds like. Everytime the bulbs ignited, they pulled far more current than the wires could pass. This heats and melts wires, and basically ***** up wiring harnesses.

he ran normal halogen bulbs it looks like... and no.. ballasts are for HIDs..

the problem is that the connection for the cheap crap bulbs he bought are poor, causing arcing and sparking within the plug.. which then creates heat and more resistance, which creates more heat... which creates more resistance.... repeat a few times.. and you got thermal runaway...

and then you got yourself a melted harness... btw, wattage doesn't play much in part here.

also.. parking lights run off the taillight fuse.

I assumed that 8500k would indicate a measure of an HID bulbs temperature. Am I far off base?

it indicates color temperature... it is not a specific term reserved for HIDs... it's for anything..

my assumption is he bought cheap halogen bulbs that have a high temperature indicative to those of HIDs.... however.. they are NOT HIDs... just "HID-bulbs"..... which are not HID....

cheap crap bulbs = bad connection = harness melting

well.. with some cheap butt bulbs.. you can try to improve it's electrical connection... i'd try some conductive grease next time around.

save you the trouble and money.... like most people out there say... save the money and do it right the first time... or else it might end up costing you much more in the long run

If the bulbs you got are 80W and 100W thats the reason why its frying your wiring. Factory wiring is only good for the OEM specs of 55W and 65W any higher than that could melt the wires.
