Default Is it worth buying a '06 tc? Lots I've read in the forums

There seems be a lot of issues with the tc.
I already submitted my order, but I have till Aug 31 to
add or delete options. Aug 31is when the dealer will
place all their orders.

-Lots of paint issues, but they do not seem to affect the Flint Mica
-Rattling from the hatch
-Rattling from the sunroof
-Interior falling apart

I am having second thoughts on buying one.
Options chosen
Flint Mica-Manual
Security
Fog Lights
Pedals
Stick shift
License Frame-Black
Subwoofer
Lip Kit(Body Kit)

all the issues i've seen here appear to be on the 05's. I have an 06 and haven't had a single problem yet. Hopefully all the bugs were worked out

Hello its funny that you are considering bailing on your tc purchase because I decided not to buy one either because of the problems I have read all over forums about them. I think though it has alot to do with the fact that these cars are so new, ofcourse they are going to have bugs that need to be improved on. I had ordered a 06 tc and cancelled after I had felt I read enough of these problems from real life owners. ofcourse the dealership will deny these problems- they just want to sell you a car. I am currently own a 2001 celica gt and it has 75K on it, with none of the problems mentioned on this forrum! It came down to the fact that I was not going to fork out 17K for a new car that was having so many problems. I will never own anything but a toyota anyway, so I went with a 2006 Corolla S- fully loaded for less than the tc. (ofcourse its on order and wont be in for a week or so) Interior is nicer, and I know that the corolla has been out for years and is one of the most dependable cars on the market and gets 38/40 mph - which is far better then the tc. This is just my opinion. I really love how the tc looks but what turned me off was all the issues I read. I sure as heck am not going to drive a car around because it just LOOKS nice. Thats why I went with a corrolla I guess. Its really sporty looking and overall a more dependable car. Good look with your choice. My advise is you may want to shop around a bit. There are so many other cars out there that may change your mind about getting a tc. GOOD LUCK!

Internet forums are for people to complain. Go to a forum for another car and you will find another set of problems.

Actually I have reviewed numerous forums on the tc and also the corolla and the complaints on these tc are by far alot worse then I have read about other toyotas.

How long have the other Toyota's been out? How firm are the suspensions set on these other Toyotas? Are these other Toyota's owned by car enthusiasts?

The Corolla is a nice car (I used to sell Toyota's and Scions) but totally different from the tC in the way it is set up to drive. I waited until the 06s came out so I could give Toyota enough time to work out the inevitable bugs. Rest assured though, there is no company out there that releases a car with so few bugs and isolates and fixes them as fast as Toyota.

Well I have a celica and been out 10+ years. and the new corolla i am buying 10+ years. Its not that I think the tc is a bad car by far, its a toyota, I think they are beautiful, just for me personally I felt better purchasing a car that has been out for a while where the bugs were already resolved. Also another reason why I did not purchase the tc is because it was very close to the celica that I already had, a 2 door coupe. Honestly though what I read on this forum and others did turn me off to purchasing a tc. It made me uncomfortable to think about the longevity of the product, thats why I went for a new car that has been out for a long time.

Understandable. Older people really like the Corolla's soft suspension. I kid, you're 3 years older than me. The Corolla S is a good looking car, reliable, and has 4-doors - absolutely. But for someone who wants a 2-door that handles well, isn't tough on the wallet, looks good, and is available in a 5-speed, you can't beat the tC.

I dont think people realize its a new car its going to have its bugs even Toyotas arent perfect. Its also an internet forum only a small percentage of the actual cars out there and nobody is going to come on here and tell you hey guess what my car doesnt have a rattle. You need to look into other sources for research like Consumers Reports and JD Power. Go to your local meetings and ask other owners how they like it. You get more of the bad stuff than the good stuff and in most cases its not widespread problems. Ive got almost 10k on my car. The paint is fine so is the interior. The sunroof rattled but it took me about 2 minutes and no tools to fix it myself. My hatch doesnt rattle. Someone on here figured out that the rattle can be fixed just by making sure you shut it straight and not only pushing on 1 side. Its no better or worse than any other car out there.

Good luck with your 2006 tc- I hope you enjoy it! I will tell you what though I love my Celica that I have now- but as much commuting as I do to work and college that thing sucks up gas like there is no tommorrw. Actually when I went to the Toyota dealership the salesman showed me the corolla s and I test drove it and fell in love with it. I think that I am just at the point in my life where I am ready to take the next step to a 4 door..lol.. I had test drove that Mazda 6 and it didn't even compare to the way a toyota drives, I didn' t like it at all. I think once you go toyota you never go back. This will be my 2nd Toyota purchase and I don't think I will ever buy anthing but Toyota. The are truely the best cars out there.

I really dont think people buy a Corolla to do anything sporty or show off. They buy it to go from here to there and nothing more. They arent going to join a forum for it because they dont care about that stuff.

I would be having doubts about some of your options, not the car:

- 5-speed -- nice
- Security -- better systems available for the same $. Search and you will find.
- Fog lights -- I don't like the placement or the shape, personally. Not sure about suitable alternatives yet.
- Pedals -- Look OK. I'm sure there are alternatives but they're probably more $.
- Stick shift -- I thought you already said it was a manual? Maybe you meant shortshifter? Those are great. TRD stuff is a bit overpriced though as there are other shortshifter's available for 1/2 the $.
- Plate frame -- As long as you can't pick one up at Autozone for less, go for it.
- Subwoofer -- I like the enclosure and the sub is servicable unless you're a car audio nut like me.
- Lip kit -- IMO the best looking kit out there so far unless you want to make your car gaudy. Click my signature link for a good look of one. PM or post if you have any questions.

The Scion accessories are for people unaware or unwilling to research after market products. They are decent products but more parties have to make a profit on them.

Flint Mica was my second choice behind super white. It's a slick looking color.

I'm glad for your sake you cancelled, seeing how you're getting raped by the dealer on some of those options.

Dont listen to the people on this forum that claim its just a small percentage of tCs. The part to fix the hatch rattle is on major back order from the dealerships. I was told a minimum of 6 weeks or more before I can get my car fixed, and thats calling many dealers. So that means a lot of 05 tCs are getting fixed. NOT small percentage! The rattling is terrible, makes me want to put my car in neutral and push it off a cliff.

I think you made a smart choice by going with the corolla. Wait a year or 2, if you still like the tC, get it then. Dont deal with the new model issue that I am unfortunately dealing with right now.

And keep in mind, many tC owners dont have the problems "YET". All the noises and rattles show up over time (mine at 9000 miles), so you cant detect them during the test drive or first few months.

To clarify: the original poster has an order in for a tC but is considering backing out. Corolla06 considered a tC and went with a Corolla S. These are two different people.

i think it's a shame you would completely cancel an order because you read about how it rattles. If you like the car enough, you'll deal with it. I've got a small rattle in my sunroof, but i never notice it because my music is usually up.

buy the car! the rattles are not a big deal.

Osidelatino - What other car would you consider getting? The RSX? Mazda 3?

I have not cancelled my order. Corrolla06 is the one who cancelled and got a Corrolla, a very economical, reliable, sedan(family car).

I am reconsidering. The rattles can be fixed if you are handy enough. The paint is what worries me the most.

As far as the options, for every $250 I finance, my monthly payment increases $5. I am not liking the placements of the fog lights. I have seen a few now. It does not look clean. They look out of place. They should be underneath the headlights. Where the airports are at.

I'll be spending a lot of time in the car. I do commute an hour from home to work and an hour and 15min from work to home(evening traffic), from Oceanside to San Diego.

My paint isnt a problem and neither are the rattles which took no skills or tools to fix. Just some common sense and like 2 minutes.
