Default Would you recommend the TC for me?

Hey there everybody. First let me start by saying what an awesome site this is. I have only just joined today but in the past month and a half or so I have been lurking around here and reading all of what you guys have to say. I have heard a lot of positive things and also a lot of negative things about the TC.

I am a 20 year old college kid and the TC has struck my eye. After saving up and looking around at all of the different car options, the TC is really the only one that has stuck with me. So basically what I am asking is do you think the TC would be a good match for me.

I drive about 30-40 miles to and from work and school a day and the tc would be my daily driver. I would probably get an auto because of all of the stop and go traffic that I go through all day and I really like the look of the Flint Mica. I don't see myself modding the tc very much if any, so it would basically be a stock ride with a few changes here and there down the road. I am looking for a reliable and gas efficient but fun car to drive and If I do end up purchasing the tc I see myself keeping it for about 7-10 years or so. I'm not one of those guys who always needs the new car every year or so. Can you see it lasting this long? I know its a toyota brand so I feel safe in trusting that it is reliable but I hear some negative things on this forum.

Give me your recommendations. If you could go back would you do it all over again? The only other car that I ever really considered was the Camry, but your only young once right? I can get a Camry when I am 40 Well... that and the Infinity G series but I don't have that kinda money lol

Thanks ahead of time.

yeah, the tc does all of that right out the box. decent mpg, reliable, toyota build quality, extremely useful for day to day activities. plus it is fun to drive, and before long you'll be back here asking how to install something or whatever.

oh, and i reccomend the manual.

I personally am eyeing a Civic Si, providing my insurance is not $5600 a year for it. This is incredibly hypocritical of myself, but after thinking over the specs of it on paper, I am really eager to test drive one to find out for myself.

The tC is still there though. I have a gut feeling that the Si is going to disappoint me, but I hope I am proved wrong. The tC was great to me, and it will be for you.

I wouldnt do it again if I had the choice. I think I would have gone w/ a Civic sedan.
I average 27MPG on a 5 speed, and this seems to be higher than some other owners here. My brother has a stage 2 WRX that gets 25MPG, so no gas is kind of not so good w/ this car.
It's usefulness is ok, depends on what you need to carry with you. The tC does have a lot of nice toys to play w/. If thats what youre into, the tC is for you.

I'm 6ft. I sat in one at the lot a few weeks ago and it didnt feel too cramped but then again It didnt have TONS of room either. That was really one of the only major concerns that I had with it.

I think it would be perfect for you. The tC is the best car I have ever owned. I am an "old" guy and buy a new car every 4-5 years.... I am also an "old" guy that refuses to drive a Camry or Avalon. The Scion tC offers the most bang for the buck. I thought I would not like it better than my Classic xB... but I thought wrong. The tC is a stealthy commute car... it gets gas mileage on par with my old xB...I don't have to floor the gas like I did in the xB to keep up with traffic. It looks ten times sportier... and accelerates much quicker.
The car WILL last 7-10 years... just keep the up on the regular maintenance. For comparison, I also owned a Ford Focus... it was pile of crap even though I babied the thing for only 3 years. I will never buy a Ford product ever again.

I'm 6'4 and fit perfectly in the tC, only thing I wish for is a telescoping steering wheel. In fact, the majority of people I know that have or want/wanted tCs are atleast 6'2.

first let me say happy birthday.... but i believe the tC will be a perfect car for you, i even read somewhere on here that the tC is the number one selling car for college students. they come standard with a lot of cool stuff, and the 08's come with even more options like navigation and all that. i love my tC alot, and if you do decide to get a tC, and you remain here on SL talking to us, im pretty sure youre gonna fix up your car.

im not very tall but I don't like how the interior doesn't have very much headroom. Or maybe im just used to the headroom in my xB. But anyways if you say you're not gonna mod ur car much but you better start saving because once the mod bug gets ya, there's no stopping it!!!

I would wait to see what the new Corolla and Matrix are going to look like. They are being unveiled tomorrow. The tC is a great car, but mine rattles like crazy, 05. You can't beat it for the price. I've had one Tercel, one Corolla, and one Celica and none of them rattled like the tC. They might have fixed most the rattles with the 08.

As for the Si, I just looked up pricing and you would have to spend 21,000 plus to get one. Another reason the tC wins. Just me, but I dont' like Honda's. Why overpriced for what you get.
