Hummmm love my xa for what it is...NO PROBLEMS unlike the TC's...also I must say the Tc looks like a Grannys car.....and boys.....you need to find something else to do....at least go buy some hummm hand lotion...for your lonley nights....lol

And I've never had someone give me crap about it that wasn't driving something uglier, crapped out or ridiculously useless. You gotta consider the source...
it's all up to you really, i myself drive a tC but i think that the xA is a pretty nice lookin unique car. If its uniqueness you're lookin for, i would recommend a xA then since when 1) the tC is gonna gain a lot more people :/ 2) whenever someone says "oh a scion? one of those box things?", they generally think about the xB....but hardly anyone talks about the xA
as for the speed aspect...i dunno there heh

My Scion dealership let me drive an white xA for a few weeks until my new tC came in. I called it "The Egg." Honestly, I was embarassed to be in it at times. I don't want to ____ on the xA, because I know plenty of people love them, but I'd never buy one. After driving my tC for ten minutes I realized that so many feature in the xA seemed so much cheaper. About five miles of my drive to and from work is in open desert on a 75MPH highway. The xA seemed to jump all over the road. It's also very loud inside. And there's NO trunk space. I couldn't even fit my weekly groceries into the trunk alone. Some people are saying that the xA is more practical, but if you can't even fit groceries in the trunk, how practical is that? Sure, you can fold down the back seats if you need to haul something bug, but what if you still want four people to sit in the car?
Oh and I didn't enjoy how high I was sitting up, but that's personal preference. The only thing I liked about the car? It'll fit in ANY parking space. LOL

haha... nice one
i gotta seriously take a picture of my car parked at my friends house... they got a small curb, not meant for parking next to, has 2 mailboxes on it... i fit my little car right there... haha... looks funny. i'll take a pic sometime. good thing about xa, you won't have too many problems finding a parking spot.

Well I'd have to say that its up to personal taste. . . but I'm gonna help best I can by listing pro's, cons, and my personal opinion:
xA Pros:
1. Makes a lot more economic/financial sense. Read the book, "The Millionaire Next Door" and you will understand what I mean. Cars are bad investments. . . they are negative investments. But this is arguable, as the price range is close on the two cars. Yes, "close" is very subjective.
2. 4 doors. . . this was the number 1 reason I chose the xA. My situation sucks, I don't care to explain. Bottom line: I need 4 doors.
3. Very unique, and will probably stay unique. . . not that many on the road.
4. You will have money left over for modifications, but realize that doing this would kill the point of #1.
xA Cons:
1. A lot less pep, but this thing is hardly slow, especially in a 5spd. But the tC is a lot faster, no question.
2. High build quality. Try slamming the doors on the xA. . . it's a true test of quality. For some reason the xA has remarkably good build quality, possibly surpassing the tC. But hey, they are all Toyota's in the end.
3. No "lounge" feature. . . you won't be able to fold the front seats flat to make a "lounge" with the rear seats.
4. Cargo space. . . with the seats up, it sucks!!!!!
tC Pro's:
1. Power, speed, and resale will probably be higher too (if you intend to sell it).
2. Looks good stock. . . no need to mod unless you want to
3. Better manual transmission (no stubborn 2nd gear)
4. Useful trunk
5. "Lounge"able
tC Cons:
1. I'd expect insurance for this thing to rocket up in a few years.
2. Fuel efficiency is worse
3. They don't stick out as much as an xA. . . believe it or not! I love the tC, btw, and I'm being honest. They styling is much more conservative, and it sticks out a LOT less, not to say that you won't be noticed. But the xA draws stares where ever you go. The grand daddy of stares would be the xB. . . I think 1 of 5 accidents is caused by some idiot staring at an xB.
4. Questionable build quality. It is a true first year run, and has some minor documented issues.
I love the tC. . . and the xA. If I were in the market for a 2 door, I'd probably go for the tC. I was very tempted initially, but I chose the xA because I needed 4 doors. Now the tC's interior FEELS nicer at first, mainly because of the design and lack of Echo gauges, but when you start to fiddle with parts, the penny pinching shows up big time. Those shades for the roof seem like they are going to fall off, even though they are brand new. . . the stereo door feels equally cheap. . . and many other small things. The xA's orange "e-z bake oven" has a very quality feel to it. . . slow release a la Lexus.
Honestly, I don't feel that there is a better deal between either of the Scions, xA, xB, or tC. . . and I'm not playing politician either. The xB appeals to those who want extreme styling, and extreme comfort. . . man that car has a huge interior! The xA appeals to those who like the xB, but need a lil more pep, a lil less extremeness, and a lil smaller budget. The tC appeals to those who want power. . . and each car screams VALUE as the prices adequately reflect the costs of the car. . . therefore I don't think either could even be called a "better" value. Therefore it all comes back to what I said in the beginning. . . it's what you want, what you like, what your "market" is. Notice that many xA owners are very partial to xA's, xB's to xB's, tC's to tC's. . . not a lot of cross shoppers like you and me. . . good job Scion/Toyota! This is a good thing for a car company and they aim to acheive that *ahem* *wake up GM*!!!
But anyway good luck in your choice. I hope this REALLY long post helps your decision. No matter what, you will be happy with your choice. Enjoy!

excellent post djct_watt.
I honestly have a lot of trouble seeing these two cars as being anywhere near competition for one another. Totally different cars with totally different mindsets. One is a sporty coupe, the other more economical and practical. Please dont take this as rude, but I think you really need to sit back down and evaluate what your true needs are and then decide. 2 doors or 4 doors, more power or more economy, etc...
This is really not the best place to ask for opinions, IMO. We dont know your situation and tC owners will say go tC, and xA owners go xA. We are certainly happy to review the details of the car, and argue why we feel our car is the greatest ever. You've already researched all that though, so it all comes down to you. I dont think you'll get much from these forums besides mostly biased views from people in very different circumstances, including me. Find out your true requirements and desires, and I'm sure the choice will be clear.
P.S. - The tC is the greatest car ever made.
