Actually, the smaller rims may help you. Many people run smaller wheels for autox. They are easier to get spinning up, so you would do better coming out of the tight turns when the rpms are low. The only down side is that if your overall tire diameter is lower, your top speed is lowered. I hit the rev limiter in 2nd from time to time, so it would be worse with the smaller diameter tires. But I think you can manage it ok. The basic rule is the smallest rim that will fit over your brakes is usually a good choice

yeah this is what i run mine at as well.

however im now sitting so low that the car is hitting...where the bumpstop SHOULD be but is sumhow missing so i will be going against my better judgment and running stiffer of the two settings in the front and the STIFFEST of the 3 settings in the rear to try to make up for the understeer im gonna get with the front bar on full stiff. the bad part about it is...i dont want the car to become squirelly which im sure it will without me being on R-comps. im probably gonna have to fight to keep the rear of the car in the back! but its better then having the suspension hit and make the front tires skip out in long hard turns. at least...im hoping it is.

Ok awesome....and it being 6" wide wont be too narrow??...but I understand the whole lower top speed with the smaller rims, same concept at a lightweight flywheel.....thanks for the info!!

long as they spin over the breaks i'd say ur fine. sum people run on 4 steelies to save weight. i wouldnt run on SCION steelies cuz they arent made for that but just sayin. a friend of mine runs on Celica GT wheels to save weight.

what kinda rubber is on these corrola wheels tho? if its lame rubber then theres no point. ur effectively decreasing ur useable contact patch by taking the width down that much so if ur rubber isnt really good then ur just setting urself up to over power the tires. poor rubber+less tire+less rotational mass = LOTSA smoke.

Well right now they have the stock rubber on there....but i was thinkin of putting some 205s on there which I found should fit just fine. Those rims are actually on my car right now cuz its in the shop and the car rides fine on them around town, just worried putting a beating on them since Im used to a 225 tire.

We had a test n tune this past weekend. Awesome time. Two courses, but they had alternate paths in each so it really was a 4 course layout. Could have easily gotten 40 runs out of the day, but I did take it easy (between 20 and 30 I think) to save some tire for the last 3 events of the season.

Here is one in-car vid of mine with my new G.F.C.M. (Ghetto fabulous camera mount... I will settle up rights to the ghetto fabulous line of product naming with Doc later tongue.gif ) and my Cannon point n shoot.

And another one. A little laughing with the starter guy at the beginning, a great off road excursion and some messing with a corner worker who was getting ready to put the course back together after my mess :D

And another on one of the other courses:

The slalom right before that section was a famous uneven spacing design we get every now and then.. obviously throwing my rythym off at the end of it in the first video. Those are tough to get right!

lol @ the second video. "Overcooked" is a good word for that.

I love watching those two left-handers at the beginning, particularly how you plant the car going into the straight little baby slalom separating them.

How long are your courses?

EDIT: Oh yeah, nice watch.

The "watch" is the pit pass wristband we have to wear to show we signed the waiver

That was a test n tune, so there were two courses as you can see in the videos. The one I went off roading on was about a 39-40 sec course on average. The other was a 50 sec or so course. During a normal event at that venue, we will use the whole thing as one big 70sec or so course. We only have one small venue we use where we have 30sec courses. The rest are larger.

The trick to coming fast into that ofset where I went off the road is to flat foot the throttle up to it, turn and lift the throttle a bit. That will plant the front and scoot the rear around to line up for it. At the middle, however, there is a dip in the pavement. Normally I come in really hot and use that to "catch" me mid-slide.. this time I sort of missed my target point and slid too far around, then hit the dip, sending me into the grass :D

Fun times for sure. Our next two events are in Oct on a huge lot at a horse track, so they will be fun ! Most likely 70 - 80 sec long course. I will have some video from that one as well.

First autoX coming up on the 28th!...and am hoping to pick up R comps for this, lol....
I found out I would be classified in the FSP class (no cats), but this event is a PCA one so everyone is in the same class no matter

You'll be in SM with no cats.

Catalytic converters are governed by federal laws, not state laws.

I wouldn't worry about it though, you/I/we won't be truly competitive until we've been doing this for 10 years, so it's not like it really matters which class you get your ___ kicked in.

Of course, they can locally class you however they feel like. If they think you're a better match for their STS cars, they might just agree to override the rules for that local event. I'll switch classes (prepped fully for STS, but have done FSP) depending on who shows up.... but that involves me taking out my backseats and stripping the car in a uber hurry.

Anyone thinking about ever going to SCCA Solo Nationals: it's an entirely different species than what you're used to. I was so overwhelmed when I got there that it took me an hour just to figure out what was going on.

Gonna miss the last STL points event, but STS and Novice season points are locked in, anyway: 3rd of 34 for Novice standings, and 4th of 31 for STS standings! :D

I will be making the Index Challenge at the end of the month, though; individuals picked by PAX rankings for teams of 4 competing for best combined PAX adjusted times. First time going, sounds like a lot of fun. :D
