08 Scion tc squeaky suspension?
My 08 tc has about 170k miles and has a newfound squeak when I go over any bumps in the road, and are very pronounced in a parking garage lol. Could a simple fix be to just apply some grease or lubricant to the shocks? Pretty new to working on cars so as many details as you can would be amazing.
Applying grease to shocks will not eliminate squeaks.
Typically, shocks will not squeak when they are bad.....I mean, almost NEVER.
Rubber suspension bushings can squeak when they are bad, but the correct way to eliminate this squeak would be to replace the squeaky bushing because this squeak develops due to the bushing sliding on it's core (metal tube) rather than the rubber remaining affixed to it's metal tube while the rubber flexes as the suspension movements happen.
There are "bearing plates" located at the top of the front shocks absorber assemblies. These bearing plates allow the front shocks to rotate left/right when the steering wheel is turned left/right. If the bearings in these plates have began squeaking, you can apply grease to them to eliminate the squeak BUT by this point, the bearings will have become damaged and should be replaced......plus, the amount of work involved to gain access to simply apply grease to these bearing plates is ridiculous, and the plates should be replaced.
Another source of squeaks can come from ball joints which have deteriorated grease in them. .....and since you mentioned "parking structure", I think this is where your squeak is coming from. Slow speed, turning, smooth bumps/dips...........Ball joints can make the loudest squeaky sounds with absolute minimal movement. You (or a repair shop) can inject grease into the ball joint to add fresh grease to eliminate the squeaky. The tool to accomplish this is a "grease injection needle".
