17x8.5 w/ 245 Toyos. Anyone with better grip?

5zigen ProRacer GN+ in 17x8.5 with Toyo Proxes T1R in 245/40/17.
Well, let's just say that the word "handling" has a completely different meaning now.
The car is on TRD springs, wheels fit perfectly - no rubbing anywhere no matter what I do. So highly recommended if you are into driving, not bling.

I think I could give you a run for your money.
A-Tech Finalspeed Eraser in 17x8 with Falken GR Beta FK451 in 245/40-17.
We've got the same traction and temp rating, and the tires are just about identical physically... we'd just need to see what difference that extra half inch of rim width does to you and your slip angle... should be interesting.

I was looking at these Falkens, but they are 4lbs heavier than Proxes T1Rs (though flakens are about $40/piece cheaper...)
245 tire likes 8.5" rim - that's when it measures actual 245 width. on a smaller rim it will not give the full 245 width.
Still, great setup. I like how the Finalspeeds look. What do they weigh?

usually going wider for what you gain alot in traction and grip, you sacrifice a lot in acceleration. is the acceleration loss noticable?
i think 235 all around is the perfect width for the tc.

I'm curious as to where you got the weight for the Falkens... because if you're correct, and the FK451s weigh 4lbs each more than your Toyos (which are 23lbs each), that would make my wheels weighjust under 15lbs each-- and no matter how much I like the sound of that, I think it's quite impossible.
Actually, the section width for a 245 is 9.7"-- my sidewalls are just standing up a hair straighter than yours, and my OA height is about .150" taller. I'm really curious to see how that affects sidewall flex and slip angle for both of us. From looking at the pics, I can't relaly tell a difference between the attitude of yours and mine.

Could be a glitch, though. My GN+ wheels are relatively heavy - close to 19lbs I would guess in 17x8.5. Need to find a reliable scale to get real numbers. Acceleration does not feel any different from stock except for the fact that I'm not wasting time spinning my wheels.
Man, that would be great if the Falkens are actually "27.3lbs" as listed on that site... because that would put the weight of my 17x8s at 14lbs 9/10oz each...
I'm thinking it's off a bit, though. The wheel and tire combo on the scales showed 41.75lbs (41lbs 12oz) after balancing. You need to get an accurate weight on yours, so we know what we're comparing.

I just wanted to ***** up zoltiz' thread with a pic of my wheel and DIY centercaps-- seeing as he is something of a DIY-centercap guy himself. :D Dunno why the flash bleaches out the blue in the cap so much... should have taken the pic in daylight, I guess.
Umm. Doc, what did the cap look before? I posted my before/after pics, so your turn
Btw, I have 3 more Scion keychains coming in the mail, so the rest of the wheels will get their logos by wednesday or so

The original centercap said "MB Motorsports", but MB doesn't make anything-- they're just a distributor. So, credit where credit's due, to A-Tech Finalspeed.

Made up my own logo, as close to the Finalspeed logo as I could get. Printed 'em out, affixed them into the caps (painted satin black), and filled over them with Enviro-Tex pourable resin. I like my new caps much better.

Welcome to the club. It's a different car with enough rubber under it.
I am absurdly curious now about wheel weight. I guess I'll have to make sure I weigh my wheels next time I get tires. I suspect the GN+ are somewhere in the 18 -19 range, but it would really suck if they are the 20+ lbs they might be. Maybe time to put them on a diet...

Do you know what your wheel/tire combo weighs? I weighed the whole deal before I mounted them up, but have no idea which pounds go where, as Falken doesn't say how much the FK451s weigh, and I haven't seen how much the A-Tech/MB wheels weigh anywhere.
zoltiz measured his, and got 45.1 lbs (?!?). I have not weighed mine yet, and mine are about 15k worn (1/3 tread so far) so weighing them now would be a little skewed compared to published numbers.
I should probably whiz one off and go over to UPS and weigh it right now...

Sweet jeebus, I hope his scale was off. That would put the GN+ at a rather portly 22lbs each (give or take a few ounces). You guys need to stop with that kind of talk-- it makes my A-Techs seem like and even better deal.
