Default Camber Kit or not?

Im planning on getting my tc lowered as soon as i can get some information on a couple of questions i have. If i lower my tc more more than an inch n a half, would it be a good idea to get a camber kit for it. If it is necessary, where would i be able to get one for a scion tc. Also, where would i be able to buy shocks for the tc. Thanx

Its not a must but not a terrible idea so that you can dial in things a little bit better. As far as i know the only company that makes a camber kit is Hotchkis.

You'll need a camber kit. Heres one made by EZ CAM which is a reputable company that makes OEM camber kits for some companies.

As for shocks, i think that the TRD ones are one of the best out right now.

$459... not bad IMO.

^^ here here

camber kit is there not to correct camber angle but to make it ADJUSTABLE for racing purposes.

ya you can buy it and set ur camber angle to 0 to maximize the life of yoru tires but you wont get much more life than if no camber kit.

with a lowered TC, the camber angle isnt tat bad. less than 1* will not do a lot of damage to yoru tires.

Default Tire life very poor

I have my steel belts showing form camber issue, very very bad. and 1* is very very bad, camber issue should be no more than half a degree on both sides.

If you want a good and affordable fix. Your local alignment should should have camber bolts which replaces one of the bolts that hold your strut in place, with this it can adjust camber. The product costs about $20.00, however you need to align the vehicle to adjust to correct negative camber. For that the cost would be whatever the rate is at the shop.

i installed hotchkis springs two weeks ago and today i had a local shop do my alignment and it cost $90 and they got my camber within spec. it was -2.0 degrees in the back, they got it to -0.6 degrees. they said the spec is anywhere from -0.9 to +0.5 for the back on the tC. the front was very close i don't remember the #'s. so they got it within spec w/o any extra parts.

ok so far ive been reading about camber kits but from what i understand they align your tires from

/-------\

to

|-------|

My other question was there was a reason why they camber in the first place? And if i do get a camber will i lose any handling i have now? im droped 1.5 front and rear w/ Tein SSp Will i need a camber kit for the rear?

There is adjustability to the rear without a camber kit. If the shop wasn't able to do ANYTHING with it, they're a crappy shop. Go somewhere else. They may not be able to get it 100% within spec, but it can be adjusted.

Camber kits can be for different reasons. Some people should get them if they're slammed or need the extra adjustability to get it within spec depending on suspension geometry.

Some people want it to go with more negative camber for racing or other reasons.

Unless you're lowering about 2" or more, you really shouldn't need one to get an alignment. And even a tiny bit out of spec on the rear won't be a problem anyway.

It's likely not the camber that's killing them. More likely is the toe. That's what destroyed my tires when I first dropped my car. Negative camber isn't really a bad thing unless it's extreme. But toe in (the front of your tires point inward) will shred a set of tires pretty fast.
