Default Cheap Rotors and Brake Pads??

well i went to drive my girlfriends car today and her brakes are squeling and when you come to a stop around town there is a slushy type of noise and i think she has been driving like this for like 4 months.. so my assumption is her brakes are shot and her rotors are done for.. i was just wondering if anyone knows of a cheap brand of drilled and slotted rotors and some brake pads that wont kill her pocket or mine.. i looked on ebay and say some sets of rotors (4 - front and rear) for 115 plus shipping.. not sure how much I should be spending on something like this.. any input would be great...

I wouldn't do brakes from ebay because I need my mental peace on my safety but i could recomend www.rotorpros.com I got mine there and I would buy again from them. as for brake pads y used stock brake pads and it's braking wonderfully.

just remember this is the breaking system. This is for the safety of you and your girl. Not the place to get cheap.

im not saying im looking for some crap stuff.. but i dont wanna go and spend 800 bucks if you know what i mean.. I got a baer eradispeed rotor upgrade on my Escalade EXT and it cost like a grand installed.. not bad but that was also cuz i had bigger wheels and wanted better braking.. her car is mostly stock so i just wanted something that could replace the old stuff but figured while she needed it maybe drilled and slotted rotors would help some..

^^Is that $500 for both? That's still kinda steep. I too am contemplating rotorpros.com rotors for my tC. But for $500 I can get Rotora Drilled/Slotted rotors and Axxis Ultimate Brake Pads and SS Brake lines. When I tallied my rotorpros.com rotors and another site selling the Axxis Ultimates and SS Brake lines, it only came to $380 total including shipping. Search around the 'net. You may find some pads cheaper.

doing a very quick search, I see brand name rotors that go for a little less than what you have been quoted.

actually is $250 everything. I paid $300 for mine because they're painted and shipping was to Puerto Rico which tends to be more expensive.

Grip Force Cross drilled and slotted rotors: F/R 175$ shipped
EBC Green stuff brake pads: F/R 155$ shipped

Ebay. Did the same for my truck and had them on for 4 years and no warping. I'll take my chances with parts I've proven to myself to be worth while. They stop hard.

Just go with the Stoptech Stage II Kit - $569 for Pads (Axxis Ultimate - very high performance pads), Rotors (Drilled OR slotted, not both - i recommend slotted), SS Brake Lines, and DOT-4 Brake Fluid.

Good luck with the SS brake lines. Just trouble for daily drivers. But, whatever you choose is good.

Site sponsor JSC Speed has Power Slot rotors and Axxis brake pads...send him a PM (username: JSC Speed) and I'm sure they'll hook you up with an excellent package. And like was said before, brakes are not the area to skimp on. If I were you I would skip the SS lines and get better pads and rotors. Stop Tech make great rotors, but they tend to be more expensive than the equally good Power Slot. Also, drilled rotors are weaker (at least in the quality grade we can afford to buy) and can end up costing you more in the long run.

SS brakelines have weak fittings and tend to snap at the ends. They also don't allow you to inspect the lines for any dry rotting spots or cracks that occur with time. They are designed for track use and that's because they are protected from track debris, have high burst pressure from extremely powerful demands of the cars and they get changed just about every race season. If you use it for a daily driver, it's just a matter of time before you see them fail. Regular rubber lines last for a good 5-6 years of normal, DD scenarios. SS lines will last about 1/3 that before beginning to wear. Just search online for SS brake line PROS/CONS and see what you get. I've seen more CONS than PROS.

I've NEVER seen any discussion about the cons being so bad - i did a search too. Got any links?

I looked at the actual fittings of my stoptech SS lines - they look stronger than the OEM ones. Plus - they're DOT approved (yeah, I know that doesn't mean much).

Besides - you don't HAVE to USE the brake lines anyway - bleeding is a pain.
