Coilovers or Lowering Springs????
First post, New scion Owner! hey everyone, I've recently started hooking up my scion, I will post pics when i get a chance. My Question for everyone is, Is it worth buying Coilovers or buying lowering springs and Which ones H-tech, TRD. I know Coilovers go for around 1000-2000 depending on the ones you buy. Any opinons are greatly appreciated. Also I live in New jersey, so the roads are not that great and it snows alot. Which one, if any would make a difference, would be better?

i'd never go coilovers unless you spend the good $ for some good tien ones...
as for lowering springs, which ones you get depend on what you want out of them:
1.drop
2.ride quality
3. spring rate (responsiveness)
ive seen jersey roads, (my cuz lives there) id say go with TRD just because it is a drop, not too agressive, but still fills the gaps in a bit, and keeps you off the ground all season long...that's if you go strictly for looks...

I was up in Jersey back in may and if it were my car I'd go TRD. If you decide on springs that is. Personally I like the Hotchkis drop myself but it my be a little low for you up there with all that snow. If you're interested in either set of springs let me know.

For the type of area you live in, I would go with trd springs. The main reason why i got them is because, i got a cold air intake on my tC, and lowering the car more than 1.5, would increase the chances of water getting into the intake. (ohh by the way, it rains like hell here, and i cannot ALWAYS avoid puddles.) Its happened to my 98 GSR (2 inch drop), and i cannot let it happen again.
i personally would go with the TRD springs, because the area you live in. i am going to be buying hotchkis springs, because the area i live in has very good roads, but the area i go to for school has some banged up roads, but i know where they are, so i either avoid them, or drive carefully. also those of you who have CAI's... their is no reason to be scared of flooding your engine. first off, they sell bypass valves which restict water if it ever does reach the engine, and their is no way you can flood your engine unless you go into a puddle that is 6 inches deep. even if you do drive over a puddle that is 6 inches deep you would have to drive in it for 25 feet or more for the water to actually go into the engine. most people do not know this.
Okay listen to this, I go to the dealership, and Scion has been out since 2004 right, I know the springs just recently been availible, but the service writter said we have never installed the TRD springs on a Scion TC..... ummmmmmmmmmmmm
..... what the hell?? I kinda don't trust . Should I go to a different shop, Like a performace shop or should I take a chance??
I have heard that there are different types of springs, like springs just for lowering (looks), and for performance. I Imagine that both lower the car, but only the "performance springs can handle the stress you'll put on them when driving....? Can someone enlighten me on this subject?
springs are made for performance, except those that lower your car insane amounts. also if you check that their are no spring rates, then they are crap. do not buy springs off of ebay, or those coilovers because they are also crap. the name brand springs that i trust are: tein, eibach, h&r, trd(obviously), and their are others, but i dont recall.. for coilovers, i would only go with tein or ground controls. those are not the ones that you must go with, those are just the ones i prefer.
Look at it this way...
You get springs you will need shocks... sooner or later...
IF you get good shocks with good adjustabilty you are looking at 500+ then you add springs 150 avg...
Your already looking at 650... you can get tein basics for about 750... And you can get better coilovers for couple hundred more... save yourself time and trouble get coilovers... you pick the ride height!
