Default D2 RS Coilover Review

Since there isn’t much info out there on these coilovers for the TC I figured I’d create a review and hopefully shed some light on these very sweet coilovers. These coilovers deserve serious credit!! I will try to keep this thread updated as much as possible as time goes by!






Price: $750-$950


Features:

* 36-way adjustable dampening
* Made from high quality 6061 Aluminum with T6 for increased hardness
* Compression/Rebound adjustable
* Adjustable spring perch
* Adjustable body allowing maximum suspension travel
* Pillow Ball Top Mount w/ adjustable camber
* Monotube High Pressure Design
* Electroplated for protection from corrosion and rust
* One Year Warranty
* FIA Certified!!
* Spring Rate they come in is - 7.5F/9.5R, kg/mm (updated 12/6/2011)



My previous suspension setups:

Stock Shocks and Springs
TRD Shocks and TRD Springs
TRD Shocks and Tien S Techs
Raceland Coilovers
D2 RS Coilovers *Current*

my civic back in the day had tien s techs and tokico illuminas.. (just to shed some light on my real long past)

ive been thru alot of suspensions to say the least. lol

Installation:

Install was cake really ill give it a 8/10 as the back was a pain to remove the Shocks and springs.. but putting these in was easier than taking out what was installed.

Review:

Pros:
- Quiet (no squeeks or clunks compared to the racelands while driving)
- REALLY Smooth ride while driving..
- Produce a lot of grip which in turn produced better braking, handling and acceleration
- Easy to adjust stiffness settings
- They take a beating well (pot holes, autocross, daily driving on crap roads)
- Improved grip in rain

Cons:
- The front has no were to put the stock brake line bracket 12mm bolt.. I had to create a little something to ensure they were clear of the wheel.



All in all I’m a very satisfied driver switching to these coilovers as they pretty much performed more than my expectations and that says a lot as I’m VERY picky about suspension. ha

i've been playin around with setups and thought id share what i think is a nice street/daily setup. This is assuming you have a upgraded rear sway bar

Update: 2/19/13 - my new tire/suspension setup

F: 35psi
R: 35 psi
F: one click minus hardest setting
R: hardest setting

The price sounds good and the build quality looks great. 36 way adjustments and pillow-ball mount are what I'm looking for. keep us updated.

Thanks for the review, I have been wondering about these coils for a while now since the price is very good. By the way what are your wheel and tire specs?

hows the ride quality? is it to bouncy? or juz how an stock ride is? cuz im still looking for an coilover for mines and its hard to decide what kind of coilover is best for mine, im looking for a smooth ride how our stock ride is, in mind i was thinking about these types of coilovers D2, Ksport, Buddy club and tanabe's

they certainly slam with a good tuck.. when i installed them i put them all the way low to see.. but raised them to what they are now.

all suspensions bounce but it all depends on the stiffness you set them to. I found that putting them all the way soft is awful. (bouncy, harsh ride) but once i put them stiffer they got alot more quite and wayyyy less bouncy.. at the track i tested them on full stiff and NO bounce at all was present. Compared to stock springs/trd springs id say they ride just as comfortable just slightly stiffer. but not on soft..

you will find the smoothness your looking for thats for sure. put it this way.. my wife is 6 months pregnant and she'd rather ride in my car than her stock mazda 3 with a sport package (including the suspension)

yep thats what prompted me to look into these. A bunch of people i know (outside the TC community) run and enjoy these. i was honestly VERY surprised as i read alot of bad stuff on these for TCs for a while. But I saw more rumors than proof.. finally put the record straight

FIA certified really says alot also (im a huge WRC and F1 fan)

Lower than RL's? I really want a new coilover. I hate the creaks and bounces. So if these go as low I'll pick them up no problem.

honestly I dont remember how low the racelands go but from what i can remember these go just as low. if anything lower when i had them all the way down (the d2s) my fenders all around were tucking the lip of my rims. But im not 100% on that compared to RL. I can tell you these dont have to be greased and inspected every weekend like the racelands and certainly are way smoother in comparison.
