Default Dealer rippin me off?

I went to the dealer today and asked about the TRD lowering springs. He told me that i needed to get the Trd lowering springs and the TRD shocks or else something will go bad (maybe stock shocks)? Is this true? is the Trd shocks worth the money? Can anyone share some of their knowledge with me? Oh and he wants to charge 800 for TRD shocks and Springs (including labor)

omg! no! the trd drop is not severe enough to hurt your stock shocks, like all shocks they will need to be replaced in due time but anything like over a 2inch drop your stockies wouldn't last very long...our stock and trd shocks are the same .you can get the trd shocks for 455$ (though steep its cheaper than the dealer) has more nitrogen in them to make them more "performance" orientated you can get the trd springs for 150$ and have your friends or a local shop install them for like 100-300$ or food!max!!! not including an alignment! but know, the dealer is screwing you don't do it here's a web site that we all here on scion life use: http://www.trdsparks.com/displaycate...ubmit=Continue...

I asked the sales mgr (Ron) at Allstar scion here in Baton Rouge and he said that the drop isn't enough with the TRD springs to damage the stock shocks. My guess is your guys trying to b.s. you into buying more stuff from him. If I'm not mistaken he said the stock shocks are good with springs up to 2.25" drop.

I'm sorry but somebody has cranialrectualinsertion at that dealership. No, you don't need the Strut set right away. The TRD Springs have a minimal drop, so your stocks should be okay for awhile. I had mine Springs installed a little over a year ago with no issues so far. (Only cost me $125 for the install.) The only reason the dealership would advice you to get the struts is basically because it's easier to install everything at once. Later on, you'll have to take off the springs and struts/shocks again to replace the worn struts. Getting both installed now will save you on labor charges.

If you have money, I say go for it. Yeah like other ppl say, it's not necessary to change your shocks at the same time as springs but they give you more comfortable ride. and their labor isn't that bad than other stealerships (I've heard $400~500 for installation which is nonsense).

$800 is an OK price. Considering on TRDSparks the TRD spring/shock package is around $615-635 shipped. then about $100-200 for the install at a shop. Having the dealer do it will be pretty good also, just incase anything happens. If you want that 1.25" drop, you dont plan on changing it and you have the money then i would say its a good deal? try to negotiate a bit tho? an extra free oil change or something?

You will have issues with the shocks after like 100,000 miles. nothing right away though.

If anything, the springs will stiffen the ride, not really make it more comfortable per se. I don't think its a huge diff, though.

Personally 800 for springs and the struts and labor is a good deal. I purchased my springs first at trdsparks for 155 and ran them with my stock struts. 1 month later I added the trd struts for 455 from trdsparks. Grand total 610.....190 in labor is on the low side from a dealer. If you have the cash I would say do it unless you are like me and like getting into the "guts" of your car and gettin a lil greasy.

I think the car rides 1,000 percent better on the TRD struts. Some people say all it is, is a little more nitrogen....I don't know about all that but I do know the TRD struts are much beefier....just look at the diameter of the strut shaft. More responsive, just feels much more solid and confident on the road.

Either way you will be fine but if I had it to do over again I would have done both at once instead of springs then shocks later.

Up to you.....best of luck!

i have the trd springs only and the drop isn't even that low you DO NOT NEED the shocks, the stock ones are fine. however, when the shocks do need a replacement later on then get the tein's...

Thanks for all the info. What is everyone's opinion on the TRD shocks/struts. What do they do? make the ride smoother? Do they provide a noticable difference?

they'll make a difference, look at Andrew's post. Don't think of it as cosmetic as Sleep3r seems to see it, but in upgrading the stock suspension.

the dealer is charging ixamxkevin 800 for TRD springs & shocks installed. i say get the TRD springs only for no more than 150 and DYI. use the leftover 600 for other suspension upgrades...

Some people can't do the DIY on this like myself. $800 for springs, shocks, labor & warranty on the install is a great price. TRD springs and struts are made for each other which is why it should be a great combo. I first got my hotchkis springs ($145) installed for $100. I just got TRD shocks for $450 (not including tax) and install price will be $80. Do the math and it's not a bad price.
