help: brake squeel/screech
there is a persistent noise when i go to push on the brakes but it only occurs when i put relative pressure on the brake when i want to come to a stop more quickly than usual. any ideas what could be happening or is this normal?... my car is dropped on goldline springs as well but that is the only suspension mod.
thanks guys.

- could be glazed. The pad and rotor could be glazed over, you get yourself some GARNET paper (not aluminum sandpaper) and you can rough up the surfaces to remove this glaze that causes screech/squealing.. then clean off the pads and rotor with brake cleaner, making sure NOT to get any on rubber surfaces.
- make sure that you have the shims attached/not damaged on the backs of the brake pads
- if the shims are in place and in good shape, then apply some disc brake grease to the ends of the pads (into the mounting hardware) and onto the back of the pads, then put the shims on
- also use the disc brake grease where the caliper comes into contact with the front pad (opposite side of where the caliper piston is)
the toyota part number for the really thick disc brake grease is
08887-80609 it's about $30-40 for a tube of it. A little goes a long way. It's really thick and sticky, might want to wear gloves unless you like scraping your fingers off.. lol
- one more is to make sure the dust shield behind the rotor/disc isn't bent and making contact with the rotor.
UPDATE: Don't forget to lube up the sliding pins with Toyota's Lithium soap glycol grease! Don't use silicone! The Toyota stuff is pink when it comes out of tube (to ID the good stuff). Toyota's part number
08887-01206 Rubber Grease (that's how it is described) was about $12-18 a tube, but it is the correct stuff.

i've been having these issues for a while now too. my brakes weren't making any noise after i swapped out the pads and threw in the stoptech rotors but recently the brake noise has returned. i'll probably take a look into doin this as well.

yeah every year or so it seems they need to be re-greased to quiet them up. Is the brake rotor surface shiny like a mirror?
Also you'll need to re-lube the sliding pins, when you take the rears out, see my post above for the correct Toyota part number for the Lithium soap glycol grease. I had a dealer use silicone and it caused the caliper to get stick and begin to seize, burnt the sliding surface of the pins. I did some research and found the correct part. Dealer said it didn't exist, I see they were too cheap to use the right stuff. I put up a link with this info

I had the same problem, but I was told at the dealer that my brake pads were good and that it was just dirty, but left the dealer and keeped happening. Last month I went to a different dealer and they told me they adjusted the brakes and I havent hear the noise anymore.
