Default help needed with TRD shocks. those that DIY please help

ok, we tried to install it at my buddy's shop that installed my suspension and turbo on my rsx. the TRD shocks didnt come with any instructions or anything. we were able to get the rear TRD shocks/springs in just fine. but when it came to the front shocks. we were stumped and had to go home cuz it was late.

so the problem with the front shocks. they were a LOT shorter than the OEM shocks. almost half the size. we could not get the spring compressed enough to fit the strut.

is the shock pre-compressed and locked for shipping purposes?? how can we unload the shock? it really looks a LOT shorter than the OEM shock. on the box, the part number is for the tC. this really stumped us and i'm surprised no one in the shop could figure it out. we tried to search for instruction manuals but no avail.

right now the rears are dropped but fronts are not. please help me finish my TRD drop

thanks all!

hmm.... when i had my trd springs/struts i did noticed the shocks being a little bit shorter. did you try pulling up on the shaft a little bit? i know with some struts they can stay compressed a little bit when pushed in. that's weird tho that you would have that problem.

when changing the springs on the stock shocks i had probs compresing the trds with a spring compresor... wouldnt allow me enough room to compress and couldnt get the top of the strut on... that might be your problem but i dont know about the trd struts... i would have just gone with tein...

we got the fronts on in about 30 mins (from wheels off to wheels on again)

it really is all in the positioning of the spring compressors... which company compressors are you using? also, try the free loan a tool at autozone (those are the ones we used) they're pretty low profile. but even then , it's really important to postion the compressors to get as many coils as possible (maybe flip the compressors, we tightened from the bottom)

we used this massive spring compressor and compressed the spring down to where it looked so abnormal. and it still did not fit the shock enough to fit the strut on.

crayon i understand and know this lol but waht i didnt expect was in the rear is the coils are so damn close to gether after you decompress the spring after the shock it tight and what not that the coils are still compressed to where your spring comressor will not fit out hahah.. rs i think you have a defective shock sounds like. ive never heard of pre locked struts i figured that would put to much load on them for a extended amount of time.. so i dont think they do that.. but i might be wrong.. but im still skeptic. check it out with the dealer mec's

i wish i had taken pics to show you, but like i said, the shaft on the TRD was about half the size that was on the stock. you can pull the shaft out about an inch but then it'll jus slowly suck back into its previous shape. we tried that with the stock but couldnt pull it out anymore so we thought that the TRD may be locked or something. i'll call mcgeorge and ask them about it since i bought it from them. if that doesnt help i'll take it to the dealer mechanics to see what they think.

this is what the shock looks like right now. is this normal??

McGeorge doesnt know, they said they'll call me back on it. funny how they have awesome prices but are not very knowledgable about the parts they sell. let alone include instructions.

did you replace the top seat from the oem shock to the new trd unit? The trd's dont come with pillowball mounts or any other so the oem piece must be reused. i assume you know this, but just to be sure
