Even a small nic in the paint can allow the bar to begin to rust. It can soften the metal pretty quickly and cause it to break.
In my 20+ years of working on cars, I've only seen three broken sway bars, two broken coil springs, and only one broken strut. Hearing that this has happened a "few" times makes me want to wonder about the quality of the coating on the bars...
I'm not sure I want one now...
dont let my experince discurage you hotchkis has the best sway bars for the tc period. like the post said earlier this is only the second time anybody has heard of this happening. and im sure hotchkis sold thousands of sets so far. i guess i was one of the lucky ones

I'm guessing it's been cold up there so that would help along with what Gortok posted, right?
My question is....Is that really a favor? I mean to replace the bar for free.

To say you have to reconsider buying from this company isnt really legit in my mind because you cant really expect perfect perfection in every item...there is always a slight mistake in one item in about a 1000 or more...but i mean how many hotchkis bars have been sold and are used...out of the 2 or 3 to be reported broken..idk just seems very improbable that you are next. Plus Hotchkis replaced it for free...i mean thats pretty cool.
if it wasnt for the fact that i installed it myself it would of really sucked. i priced around i guess its like 200-300 to get a set istalled. that as much as the bars were!! if anybody is around the pittsburgh area i can put them on for you a whole lot cheaper than that. next job is trying to do a clutch install myself
well almost 3 years to the day. it broke again. this time i heard it and felt it. was making a left turn at a stop sign the road was nice and flat. it was so loud i thought someone shot the front of my car with a shot gun. notice the quarter moon of rust on the brake in the second pic must of had a small crack for a while

happened to me too a couple months back. weird thing about mine is there was no sign of rust.

To the OP, I assume they sent you the same version when you originally broke it, meaning it didnt have the stops welded on it. This was the cause of the rubbing/interference on that version that ended up breaking them. They later redesigned them with stops to prevent side to side movement.
