Default Klunking noise??

Don't know if this is the right thread to post this so if not Im sorry!

Yesterday on the freeway I was headed to my friends place. We were all going about 65 mph and this idiot in front of me decides to switch lanes because the lane I was in was going to slow. As he switched over he saw that lane coming to a complete stop so he quickly switches back over to my lane and I was going about 60 and had to slam on my brakes really hard to avoid hitting that moron. When I was pushing hard on the brake I heard a klanking noise coming from under the car and i was just wondering what the heck that was? I was thinking it was ABS but are they suppose to sound that loud?

ABS kicking in sounds like a bit of a grinding noise and you can actually feel it in the brake pedal. You've never had the ABS come on before? If not, that's probably what it was.

The noise stopped right after you let go of the brake? If so, it was most likely the ABS system doing it's job.

Well it stared when I pushed really hard then it stopped when I let go. It didn't sound too good for the car. Just wanted to make sure everything was okay with my Betty.

yeah, then that is normal, it is the car pumping the brakes about 18 times a second to prevent lock up. it also has electronic brake force distribution.

be grateful you only have that noise when you are braking hard, my performance brakes squeak all the time even under light braking.

Ever since I have gotten my new toyo proxes 4 tires, I can't get abs to go on for the life of me unless it's in snow. I can slam my brakes doing 60 on a dry road and no abs. I thought it was a problem with the system at first, but then I realized that my tires were just that strong. Point is, if you can't stand it, get rid of the stock crap tires. ABS shouldn't be going on there anyway IMO if you have good tires

i agree.. no noise with the proxes4 here. only in snow/ice.

Ever notice that the abs sounds like a duck quacking? When mine activates it really sounds like a duck quacking.. QUACK- QUACK.. made me laugh the first time I heard it.. maybe just my car?

Nice! Free upgrade man, can't beat it. Note to original poster though about ABS, when it kicks in and pulsates the brake pedal, DO NOT let off the brake and reapply pressure again. The ABS will deactivate itself and that will cause the brake system to become "standard" and lock up the wheels like non-abs cars do. Just FYI for you, I know I freaked out the first time it happened to me.
