Default Koni Shocks/struts are a pain

Well basicly iv been all over town and called almost everyplace to get theese
beautful shocks installed with my H&R race springs. I was just to
give up hope and succede to the high price asked for by the auto shops. The first
issue is that none of the computers from any of the auto service places had
any labor info for suspension parts on the tC

Price for installing Koni Sport Struts , and H&R Race Springs

AutoTire-$400
Mieneke-$450
Midas----$508

Most places wont touch em because of the modifications involved in installing em.
I finally found one place that might get it done for $325.
Ill try to head over there tomorrow and keep you guys posted.
One thing i noticed is the big names you know to go get car sevices done are always more expensive,
look in the phone book for small stores privately owned they will always have the better deal.

sorry if my typeing doesnt make sence im too lazy right now to go over it and fix my mispelled words and such

Should be around $200 since the same is involved in changing just the springs

i wish u guys but its not that simple, for the front whos ever instaling the front shocks has to cut the strust housing of the factory unit and drill a hole in the bottom to fit the adjustment ****, it uses the factory strut housing as like a cartrige, and when ever i mention the cuting and drilling involved they get iffy.

if it wasnt for that the lowest iv seen for doing the instalation
was like 120 or 160 i dont rememeber

i was told by one of the guys at autotire that they use this stupid cartige method to instal the shocks so it would be able to fit on multiple vehicles, but the downside is the added labor

Yeah, that's the problem with Koni. They make their shocks and struts to fit multiple cars, and make you work for propper fitment. That's why I would recommend Coilovers to anyone.

alrite u guys there in and let me just say wow amazing, final price for install... $375 i have them set one full turn stiffer in the back then factory setting and one half turn stiffer in the front.
the H&Rs aren't as stiff as i was expecting the ride is surpriRIzeIngLy comfterbalLlll for bein as stiff as the setup really is.

i havent had much chancet test the performance gains cuz of the pouring rain but it felt and looked nice. im sure after i get my new tires nex week the whole feel will be quite diffrent than it was before, and once again im sorry for the grammer errors im just too dam lazy

installing koni's are a pain in the ___, plain and simple. my cousin and i had to do the same procedure as you described above to his 1999 sentra se limited(he owns a 06 BSP tC now). took well over two hours for just the front. the back was just bolt on and took less than an hour. he was running the koni reds with eibach sportlines. i personally do not think destroying perfectly good stock struts to install the konis is worth it imo.

im glad your suspension turned out good for you.

I installed koni reds on my cavalier a year and a half ago. The little bit of extra work was well worth it in the end. It is really simple. Measure down 40mm from the top, mark and cut. Remove the guts and drain oil. Mark center of bottom and drill a hole for the bolt that holds the Koni cartridge into the case. It is not for an adjustment know, but for a bolt to hold the cartridge in.

So 1 cut, and 1 hole to drill. Then bolt the cartridge in from the bottom and install as you do any other strut. The ride comfort and adjustability you get with Koni is well worth the effort. Soooo easy to install yourself. Took me 4 hours to do front and back on the cav and that was including the cutting and drilling.
