Default Losing control

Ok, is it me or have I been reading a lot of stories lately about tC's losing control and crashing, flipping, rolling over and so on. I have read threads about "strange" noises coming from the suspension or sway bars not working correctly. Are these accidents due to driver error or is there a real suspension issue with the car itself?

Driver error.

UNLESS the parts are installed poorly and incorrectly - but I very highly doubt this is the case for 99% of the instances.

It's just people trying to be fast and furious with a vehicle that isn't.

You know I heard stories about this car doing this too and now that I drive one I really agree with ack154 these idiots think this car is the best thing since sliced bread. Don't get me wrong the car is nice but it's not ment to take a curve at 80 mph. These people really need to learn their car better and actually see what it can and can't do.

Totally driver error. I mean if you look at all the stories they always start with something like " Oh me and my friend were racing this...." or " The other night we was taking this turn at XX mph.....". Then look at the age range of the people in question. They're usually in the 17-22 range. Most, not all, people that age think they know how to drive but not really.

Like the others have said, driver error. The problem is most of these kids are either not saving money for the future, or their parents buy them a tC for their first car. In the long run, this is a big mistake because they potentially develop poor driving skills and take more risk than they would in a four door family car; it was the same when I was in high school.

In general, the tC is wasted on drivers under 21 because they typically lack the driving experience to appreciate the car's limitations.

Just My Opinion

The only thing that might be slightly fingerable (other than a member of your kin Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!) would be that the stock drive height is not completely suitable for the weight balance, and that the tires if they don't give enough leeway and feedback will let your car flip.

I constantly take turns at 30+ miles an hour and can tell when im getting close to letting the tires get off the ground.

Then again im used to driving crazy in a soft suspension car.

Under normal driving conditions... I emphasize NORMAL driving (weather irrelvant) - this car will not flip.

If they are losing control, crashing or flipping - that is just wrong out of the box the tC only has a 10% 'roll probablility' so good luck on that.

Strange noises are just the springs needing to be reset - a few with stock shocks and TRD springs have had that - if you read the whole thread that isn't hurting anyone and don't seem to have the problem after they are reseated.

Sway bars not working correctly is probably just improperly adjusted suspensions - when you change your suspension it takes some know-how to get it right. For instance I had to use my swaybar back on the lowest setting because I couldn't adjust my shocks and was getting a horrible amount lift-throttle oversteer and just needed to adjust they sway back until I get adjustables.

The tC doesn't have an overall or major problem with the suspension - other FWD cars have similar issues as well.

It kinda stings a bit with all the people slamming 17-22 year olds, but unfortunately its mostly the truth. I mean I have fun in my car, but not to the point where I'm doin stupid crap. It's just all in the level of maturity and sadly I think that level is occuring later and later these days. I'll admit I got in a wreck with my first car (saturn SL-1...brakes locked, no ABS) so I try my best to be cautious in the way I drive now. I hate to say it, but I think more young, crazy drivers need to go through a wreck, it'll make them more cautious....unless they're idiots that is.

If you gave those kids a porche.. they would get in even worse wrecks. They dont know how to drive but think that they are race drivers. The tC does fine.. better than some similar cars when you push it (especially with a small drop). Like I said, many of these idiots think because they drive, they have a somewhat sporty looking car, read "sport compact" (AKA GARBAGE LINER MAGAZINES) and have watched someone race that they are racers too.

Look at the target demographic for this car. Look at the age of the people who buy this car. (youngest of any Toyota) Look at which age group has the least amount of driving experience, takes the most risks and gets in the most accidents.

Besides, no car accident is ever your fault. You rear-end someone because they stopped short. You hit a parked car because it was parked someplace it shouldn't be parked. It's logical then to assume that every brand new TC destroyed by some jackass pretending to be the drift king is due to mechanical failure.

the car can def. handle a curve/turn at over 80mph, with the right work and driver skill
but yea i agree, its a bunch of no-talent racer wannaB's that are crashing, flipping
oh and dont forget the DUI crowd as well

I agree 100%.... I got in a race with a V6 5spd mustang (2000 ish) and the kid (he just turned 17) slammed into third around a curve the rear wheels broke loose and he did a 360 in the middle of the highway. He and the car were ok thank god, but it's a clear example of wrecklessnes due to lack of experience.
