Default lube sway bar bushings? clicking noise*

i'm getting a pretty bad clicking/clunking noise coming from the rear of my tc when driving on all but the smoothest of roads. pulling out of my garage or driving over cracked pavement has my car cracking and clicking terribly.

i did the push bounce test to see if it was my rear struts and came up negative. it stopped bouncing after a single bounce. so i climbed into my trunk and poked my head over the rear bumper and bounced a bit to see if i could isolate where the sound was coming from. i couldn't tell 100% but i'm pretty sure the clicking/clunking wasn't coming from the struts, but rather the in the middle of the rear.

is it my progress sway bar? it's been in there for about a year and a half. it's been through arizona and even spent some time in the snow.

any ideas of what's going on based on my rough description? thanks in advance!

get underneath and check if you snapped a bolt or if one is missing? i was gonna say check your endlinks if they broke as well but the progress bar comes with new ones....but nevertheless....

also, check your sway bar the entire length for any cracks pits or dents, if so it may be hitting the frame.

Hey i had a similar problem and it turned out that one of the small nuts was a little loose from when I installed either the rear sway or painted my calipers. So my rattling went on for a month or so before I solved the problem by just tightening every little nut I could. Maybe your problem is similar?

^my problem was exactly the same. thanks for the hint.

i finally locked down where the rattle/clatter was coming from... the passenger side rear suspension area. the first few times i got under there i found a few loose nuts on the strut arms, but nothing else. the clatter continued so i kept getting under the car trying to find the source of the rattle.

finally i found that the lower link nut/bolt combo was loose. it was so loose that there was a great deal of play just by jiggling it with my hand.

it's a real _____ to get in there with a socket wrench and adjustable wrench because if the tight space as well as the exhaust. a few bumped knuckles later and everything was running smoothly and quietly.

also just for good measure i lubed every bushing i could find while i was down there.
