Default Problem taking off TRD springs from TRD shox.

I was trying to remove my springs from the shock so I can drop my car a little lower, but then ran into a problem. If you look at the very top of the tower of the shock(where you remove the rubber cover) under the plastic visor where the windshield wipers are, there's a bolt that you're supposed to remove to get the spring off (once its compressed). Someone said to me you're supposed to use an allen key, but there no slot to put the key, it's just a giant nut on there. I tried to air tool it off and it did nothing. I bought these from TRD as a package, so did they make it to where the spring can't be removed from the shock?

Yeah that's what I did, I took off the whole shock, compressed the springs, and tried to air tool the nut at the top of the tower, right under the rubber cap and it was a no go. There's no slot for an allen key or anything. Just a nut. I don't know if the bolt was torqued too tightly or what. When I try to torque it off, the rod just spins with the giant nut lol. Not sure where I went wrong.

try spraying alot of wd-40 on the thread where the nut goes on and let it penetrate before trying to zap it off with the gun.

no need for the allan wrench for the fronts. only the rears.

put the whole assembly back into the car. put all the bolts in. put the wheel back on, lower the car back down. now that there is pressure pushing the whole shock/spring assembly up into the subframe, you can loosen the nut. you need the car to not be jacked up, to keep the shock from spinning. Losen the nut, but DO NOT remove it.
Now, jack up the car, remove all the bolts/nuts, remove the spring assembly, compress the spring. now you can safely remove that top nut.
Same thing when you re-assemble. You have to re-tighten the top nut again, once you get everything put back, and remove the jack.

Okay great, i'll give that a shot once I get another day off! Do you know how the car sits on stock springs + trd shocks? I'm going to be rolling on stock springs for about 2 weeks, I spent my paycheck money when I gave up on getting the springs off lol.

well considering that TRD springs are about 1.25" drop....it will sit 1.25" higher than it is now. shocks don't determine the ride height.

Okay, I was thinking it would sit a little lower since the rod is shorter, but thanks!

I don't recall using an allen wrench for neither the front or the rears when I put in my TRD suspension

it's a size 19mm or 17mm i think its 17mm... just stick a wheel wrench in the whole of the strut where it connects to the control arm... then, ratchet off the nut while holding it down... the shock might spin with it, so you might have to vice grip the shock to hold it down and tight.. PM me if you got more ?'s...
