Hi Guys, I really need your help. I tried reading posts regarding these coilovers but can't really make up my mind on which one will I get. Here are some tips and questions:

1.) I'll just use it for daily driving and I won't bring it to a track.

2.) Just need like 1 or half finger gap in the front and half finger slammed in the back (probably to even out the stance), that's why I'm going for CO's.

3.) I'm willing to give up a little driving comfort just to be riding low, but not that harsh as TEIN Basic's.

4.) I'll be running on stock rims and tires.

5.) I won't be getting a front lip or body kit.

6.) How low can both go? Progress I've read can go -4", but how about H & R?

7.) Both coilover's spring rates. Can someone provide them?

8.) And as for availability issues, I know that H & R is always in stock. But what about Progress CS1s? Are they in stock now? Who has them brand new in stock?

I'm sorry guys for asking too much. I'm just noob at this and just starting to learn how this works. I really appreciate your help and thanks in advance!!!

 

I own H&R coilovers, so I'm a little biased. Since you live in SoCal, the last thing you want to do is lower you car less than 2", it will screw up the suspension geometery and make your car handle worse, and put you at greater risk for an accident. Besides, both coilovers will get you to your desired wheel gap between -1.75 and -2". H&R doesn't post their spring rates, but they ride a little stiffer than stock in a straight line and grip like a beast in the corners.

Either way you decide, you can't go wrong.

 

What about thinking about the hks coilovers? Since its your dd their spring rates seem to be pretty good. Or atleast most comfortable from what I have gathered from this forum. But if I am incorrect please correct me lol. There is a person on here that has them and loves them so you might want to look into that.

Yeah, I've read your review on the H&R and it was great! Very convincing. At first I really wanna go with Progress CS1 because it doesn't have issues as far as I've searched. Then I read your review, that's why I'm confused on which coilover to get. Well, basically the only problem that I encounter on the road are railroad tracks, but other than that it's all smooth. So I think it'll be fine for me to lower it beyond 2" and I know the consequence that comes with that. So my question is, would you prefer H&R over Progress?

HKS? They might be too much for my budget. I'm just willing to spend like $1,200 for coilovers. I would still need to get them installed in a shop and get it aligned so it would be like less than $1,400. But is HKS really better than H&R and Progress?

And to others, is the Progress CS1 coilover still in backorder? Who has them in stock and ready to ship? Thanks again!

I'll be honest with you, I've never driven a tC with Progress coilovers so I can't answer that. Obviously Toyota seems to like Progress enough to outfit their LBGP Celebrity Race tCs with them, and that was one of the factors in my final choice, but it ultimately came down to what was in stock. H&R keeps a good stock of tC coilovers at their U.S. headquarters in Washington, and if need be, they can get them rather quickly from Germany. If I were you, I'd PM or call Dezod on the shipping status of Progress coilovers. It'll make your decision easier if you can't even get your hands on Progress to begin with.

 

I see. Well, I just PM'd Dezod and hopefully he can bring me good news. But if not, I'll probably get the H&R coilover by the end of this month.

By the way, is the ride harsh using H&R like the TEIN basic's? Or is it better than that? Do you feel uncomfortable driving around?

 

Not at all! If you drive down a rough road you'll feel it, but they won't damage your kidneys like TEIN Basics. I commute between L.A. and Santa Barbara on occasion and there is some pretty nasty washboard on the 101 in Camarillo and Oxnard, my tC rolls over it like butter. That's the advantage of having progressive springs, they are soft during normal driving, but they get ultra stiff when you take a corner.

 

LoL! Yeah 101 has obstacles that you'll encounter, but most of the time, you can hardly go pass them because of traffic jams. I just drive around Anaheim and basically around OC but I'm pretty much aware of roads that aren't car-friendly so I just try and avoid those roads.

I hate bugging you but I have one last question, how low can you go with H&Rs? Some said that with Progress, when they install them, it lowers the car 1.5" instantly. And then you can still adjust 1" to 3" more. How much did the H&Rs lower your car when you installed them? And how much low can you still adjust? Do you think if you'll adjust the H&Rs all the way to the lowest setting, can it go as low as 4" from stock?

 

My Progress coilovers were just delivered. I've read good things about both coilovers (H&R and Progress) and ended up going with Progress because the colors went well with my color scheme. Give Paul from Dezod a shout, he should be able to answer any of your questions. He did a great job helping me find out what would work best with my scenario.

That's great! For how long did you wait after you ordered them? I guess it is in stock, but I still need confirmation from Paul if they still have some in stock. But if there ain't any, I'll go with H&Rs. Can you post some pictures after you installed them? Thanks!

 

I ordered them on Thursday or Friday of last week...I forget which. They arrived yesterday. They were in stock when I placed the order but Paul should be able to check on availablility for you. I'll definitely get some pics for you. I'm having them installed on Friday.

 

H&R says you can go as low as -2.5" front and -3" rear, but at that height with any coilover, you'll start rubbing running over ants.

So I guess that height should only be used in photoshoots. I'm just concerned about the gap between the fender and the wheel, not really the ride height itself. I guess the combination of the height setting of your coilovers and putting on some 18" wheels will do the trick.
